Well done to Vukona and Vumbhoni for putting us on the map after the 1st race of the MTB school league. We are currently placed 11th. As a small school, this is a wonderful achievement.

Our Primary School cycles every Tuesday (see the last part of the video of today's ride - you can't ask for a better setting!) and our Preschool cycles every Wednesday.

This is the wonderful cycling update from today's adventure:
🚴‍♂️🌿 Cycling Update – What a Ride! 🌿🚴‍♀️

What a privilege it is to be able to cycle on the farm! Today our riders tackled Dog Hill and made their way all the way to the Linvale storeroom and back. 💪🚵

🏅 Seniors: 4.7 km completed
🏅 Juniors: 3.4 km completed

💛 Yellow Jersey: Xiluvelo
Awarded for not only completing his ride but also catching up to the slower riders after experiencing a technical issue. What determination! 👏👏

❤️ Red Jersey: Tshepiso
Awarded for outstanding endurance after completing the entire ride in granny gear ⚙️😳. Now that's perseverance! 👏👏

A huge well done to all our riders for their effort, positive attitude and determination on the trails today. We are proud of every one of you! 🌟🚴

Land, Sea, Air - Grade 1 Science - Project-based learning across subjects (Science, English and Art).
In groups, children had to create a poster showing their allocated animal and its habitat and then share their findings in an oral presentation to the class.
Goals:
▪️Identify and label key body parts and how they help animals survive in their habitat.
▪️Develop teamwork, creativity and communication skills.

On their poster they made the background the habitat, and then pasted and labelled their animal. Each group was allocated either a land animal, a sea animal or a flying animal, to make the results varied and exciting.

Summerhill Workers' Day. In appreciation of what our Support Staff do for us, our children (aged 3 to 13) tucked in to do some work on our campus. Cleaning, scrubbing, sweeping, raking, weeding, building.... they all worked hard and, after being exhausted after 45 minutes into a 90 minute stint, they felt a new respect and appreciation for what our staff do everyday. Empathy and mindfulness were the winners of the day.

Independent Schools Athletics last Saturday. Nine Independent schools from the Lowveld (most much bigger than us). Read on for some excellent, record-breaking results. Our athletes looked smart and disciplined. They performed well, and we are so proud of them for not bowing down to others around them and keeping their food and drink healthy and sustainable for peak performance. Super behaviour, sportsmanship and skill left us all feeling proud of every single child.
Special congratulations to our 3 champs who achieved the following results:
U/11 100m
1. Alex🥇
2. Mpho🥈
U/11 High Jump
1. Mpho🥇
2. Alex (tied)🥈
Open ShotPut
3. Siyanda🥉
U11 Long Jump

U11 80m

2. Mpho🥈
Both broke the record

Alex Senior Victor Ludorum (a first for Summerhill, Mpho won Junior Victor Ludorum a few years back)🏆

And of course, special applause to our staff relay team, for their bravery and endurance in a tough race.

Staff Training.
Our Health, Safety and Crisis Management Policy states that staff need to be trained how to use a fire extinguisher (along with other safety protocols).
MP Fire ( who recently conducted the annual service of our extinguishers on campus) came in to give us the opportunity to learn how to break the seal, remove the pin, aim (at the bottom of the fire) and blow (obviously a bit more to it, but enjoy the summary😊). As aware as we all were of the importance of something like this, we also enjoyed some fun as we each had a turn to show our newly learnt skills. Our instructor, Legend was a legend indeed. A great way to have a staff meeting on a Wednesday afternoon.
