You can't spell HERO without HER....
To all the inspirational, hardworking women in our community, thank you for being positive role models for our Summerhill children.

A Grade 7 Singapore (and teacher inspired) Maths lesson. First they measured the circumference of their own orange circles, then divided by the diameter of each. We built a graph of all the calculations and eliminated the extremes by working out the average each time. The resulting average from their measurements was 3.16. Then the teacher brought out her own "orange circle". Circumference, measured with string (62.8cm), divided by the diameter (20cm) = 3.14. One boy exclaimed, "That's Pi!" to which the teacher responded, "Exactly," gesturing to the apple pie. A practical (and yummy) way of, hopefully, helping children to remember the formula. And, the bonus, they weren't too far off with their own averaged out measurements.

Last week's theme in Grade R was 'Community Helpers'. They donned their aprons and chef's hats and each baked their own little loaf of bread.

Our theme for Term 2's assemblies was "Count Your Blessings and Make Your Blessings Count." We were inspired by stories of several people who are differently abled to us (blind, deaf, paralyzed etc.). We learnt that we shouldn't let our limitations stop us from aiming high.

The final assembly was ignited by Brent Lindeque, the Good Things Guy where we learnt to be ourselves - "BEE YOU" 🐝 and how the word "Impossible" becomes "I'm possible." It was a fitting way to end off a powerful theme and a good term.🌟

Our Preschoolers had a wonderful adventure on Friday. One of their highlights was using the radios to rescue Friend Mouse.
Thank you SARZA - Lowveld/Nelspruit for your wonderful visit. Our children learnt so much.
