Intentional Change Theory as proposed by Richard Boyatzis, Ph.D indicates that people respond differently to an intentional change that is consistent and aligned with who they want to be compared to people who need to make a change in order to avoid something bad from happening.
An example: Your Doctor tells you that you need to quit smoking or you will get cancer and could die – this prompt lights up the Negative Emotional Attractor. This part of the brain works great as a catalyst to change but not great for sustaining it.
If the Doctor perhaps approached it from a different angle by asking what your ideal healthy self looks like, who do you want to be (perhaps your ideal version doesn’t smoke and is not dependent on it). This approach lights up the Positive Emotional Attractor which is how long term sustainable change can be prompted. Create the vision and then build the ideal plan to achieve
it.
The decision to change can be made instantaneously. You can choose to change right now. The reality is, you will need to practice to make this your reality.

Growth vs Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset: “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work – brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” Carol Dweck, Ph.D.
Fixed Mindset: “In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success – without effort.” Carol Dweck, Ph.D.
With a fixed mindset we don’t believe that we have an influence over the outcome of a situation. Consider the information on Locus of Control again – this will relate to having an external locus of control. We avoid challenges, give up easily and feel threatened by the success of others.

‘Your number of years in the working environment does not equal your number of years’ experience.’
I had a chat with someone not too long ago about the perception we have of our age. She has a big vision for her future and her inner fire is burning to get the ball rolling to start achieving her goals. As she mentioned this to a family member, her enthusiasm was met with strong resistance. This person immediately questioned her ability to be taken seriously in the role she envisioned. Her age was used as the only measuring tool to determine whether she will be successful pursuing her dream immediately. It was expected of her to first gain experience. But how much experience do you need to start chasing your dreams and vision? What is an acceptable number of years? What if she just jumped and started right now, boldly, and courageously? Making mistakes along the way and learn how to grow and improve the vision?
Your age is not an indication of your level of self-awareness.
Don’t let anyone ever make you feel that you need life experience to do anything. You can be 60, with 40 years behind you in the working environment, but still only 10 years’ experience – many people only grow for a few years and then they just repeat what they know for the rest of their careers resisting any form of change and improvement. Your number of years in the working environment does not equal your number of years’ experience.
We make statements to others from our own frame of reference and expect our perceptions to be the truth. Our beliefs about how things “should be” hinder us from moving forward and living the lives we are destined to live. There are no rules prohibiting you from pursuing your dream right now. So, work through those limiting beliefs and go for it!
Encourage growth through failing as part of the success journey.

"From vision to courageous goals to SMART goals to building your action plan! Winning strategy."
Once we have established the vision we have for ourselves, it is time to create our action plan and build our strategy to implement the changes we want to make sustainably in order to achieve our goals.
Traditionally, methods like the SMART model are used to assist us in setting and navigating our goals. In this model, all goals are validated against the following criteria:
S: Specific
M: Measurable
A: Agreed
R: Realistic
T: Timelined
While this model serves us well in certain aspects, another goal setting approach reaches a much more profound depth in us and contributes to the generation of our “fire” – Courageous Goal Setting (term as used by John Blakey & Ian Day).
This approach offers the opportunity to set goals and visions
that generate excitement, fear, adventure, inspiration and
imagination. Your first reaction to a courageous goal should be “That is impossible!” perhaps followed by “Even if possible, it would scare me to commit”, finally landing on “If I do this, then my whole life will change in ways that I can’t even comprehend right now”.
Moving from outrageous to being frightened to being in a transformative space.
Vision
Your vision is a clear image of the person you want to be combined with the emotions / feelings that future self version is experiencing. How is this version of you presenting himself / herself to you? What are they wearing? How are they walking? What facial expression is prominent? What emotional vibe is expressed? What are they doing? Try and build a clear image and emotional charge to fire up the vision.
A compelling vision for the future has been associated with increased levels of happiness – so put some effort into this step and really dig deep!

All the feels on this one - written by Brené Brown:
There is no greater threat to the critics
and cynics and fearmongers
than those of us who are willing to fall
because we have learned how to rise.
With skinned knees and bruised hearts;
we choose owning our stories of struggle,
over hiding, over hustling, over pretending.
When we deny our stories, they define us.
When we run from struggle, we are never free.
So we turn toward truth and look it in the eye.
We will not be characters in our stories.
Not villains, not victims, not even heroes.
We are the authors of our lives.
We write our own daring endings.
We craft love from heartbreak,
compassion from shame,
grace from disappointment,
courage from failure.
Showing up is our power.
Story is our way home. Truth is our song.
We are the brave and brokenhearted.
We are rising strong.

"A son and his father are walking in the mountains. Suddenly, the son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"
He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
And he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!”
The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.
It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; life will give you back everything you have given to it."
Your life is not a coincidence. It's a reflection of you!

Our lives reflect our thoughts, feelings, actions, behaviours and beliefs back to us. When considering the moral of this story, what are we putting out in the world? What thoughts constantly flood our minds, what beliefs do we keep reinforcing, what behaviours do we keep repeating?
“Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than your thoughts.” Benjamin Disraeli
We have the responsibility to generate our happiness, inspiration, and success as it already lies within us and not somewhere on the outside in “stuff” or other people. No one can make you feel better about yourself.
Be empowered and create the life you are worthy of.
