🎊🎊 September 27 is a special day for everyone who works with children!🎉

It was on this very day in 1863 that the first kindergarten in Russia opened in St. Petersburg. More than a century and a half has passed since then, and the profession of a preschool educator has remained one of the most important and warmest on earth.

Today we wholeheartedly congratulate our dear teachers of the "Klyuchik" kindergarten at the Russian children's center in Cape Town! 🤎
🌷You are the ones who greet the children with a smile every morning. Who patiently teach, gently guide, and sincerely rejoice in every little victory. Who can turn an ordinary day into an adventure.

A few moments from our day 🌿

Working with Montessori materials, then gathering for our Montessori Circle to practise listening to silence, read The Titmouse Calendar by Vitaly Bianki, and learn the days of the week.

At the end of the working day, we gather for our Montessori Circle 🌿

Today we practised listening to silence for a whole minute. It may sound simple — just sit quietly, right? But for children, it’s not easy at all. Not talking, not moving, not tapping your foot, not getting distracted by a friend, and actually making it through the whole minute of silence is quite a challenge.

Then we read The Titmouse Calendar by Vitaly Bianki — a story about Zinka the titmouse 📖

And, of course, we followed our little tradition and blew out the candle 🕯️

And that’s how we finished our working day — calmly and in true Montessori style 🧡

🌿 Caring for Our Flowers

It’s especially hot today, and Liza helped our flowers through this sunny day by watering all the plants. 💧🌱

Caring for plants is part of practical life in the Montessori environment. Through these simple everyday activities, children develop care, responsibility, coordination, and independence.

A little help can make a big difference. 💚

In the video — a few moments from our children’s work 🌿

With the sandpaper letters, the child first traces the letter with their finger and then writes it in the sand. This combination of touch and movement helps the child remember the shape of the letter and the correct direction of the hand movement. And if something doesn’t work out — the sand can simply be smoothed over and the child can try again. This gives them the opportunity to notice and correct their own mistake.

With the small beads, the children transfer them from one container to another and then collect the beads that have spilled using their hands. This kind of work develops fine motor skills, precision of movement, and hand-eye coordination.

There is also work with numbers using the same principle: tracing the sandpaper number with a finger and then writing it in the sand. The child remembers the shape of the number through movement and learns to reproduce it correctly.

And practical life — cleaning up after the activity. Using a small brush, the child sweeps the small pieces of paper into a dustpan. This requires coordinating the movements of both hands and controlling each movement.

These simple activities are part of a much bigger process: children learn to concentrate, coordinate their movements, notice their own mistakes, and correct them independently 🧡

After lessons, it’s time to get some fresh air, move around, play, and simply enjoy being together.

During outdoor time, children interact, create their own games, explore the world around them, and have the opportunity to move and play freely.

Every day at Klyuchik is filled with little discoveries, movement, and joy. 💚

💬 Does your child need a speech therapist?
Sometimes parents think a speech therapist is only needed when a child cannot pronounce certain sounds. In fact, speech development is much broader.
It may be a good idea to consult a speech therapist if your child:
🔹 speaks less than other children of the same age
🔹 is difficult for others to understand
🔹 has trouble pronouncing certain sounds
🔹 confuses or replaces sounds and syllables
🔹 has difficulties building sentences or telling stories
🔹 struggles to understand instructions or express thoughts
🔹 speaks very quickly, slowly or with frequent pauses
🔹 has difficulties with reading or writing
🔹 uses two languages and you are unsure whether their speech development is age-appropriate
Speech therapy is not only about correcting pronunciation. A specialist can help develop clear speech, vocabulary, grammar, phonological awareness, communication skills, reading and writing, and make communication easier and more confident.

🌱 When is it time to see a speech therapist?

Every child develops at their own pace, and growing up bilingual can make speech development look different. But sometimes a little professional support can make a big difference.

You may want to consult a speech therapist if your child:

• is difficult for other people to understand;
• has a limited vocabulary compared with peers;
• struggles to form sentences or tell a story;
• replaces, omits or distorts sounds;
• has difficulty understanding or following instructions;
• struggles to express thoughts and needs;
• has difficulties with reading or writing;
• or you simply have questions about whether their speech development is age-appropriate.

👩‍🏫 What can speech therapy help with?

Speech therapy can support the development of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, phonological awareness, communication, reading and writing skills. For bilingual children, a specialist can also help parents understand their child's individual language development and identify areas that may need additional support.

Most importantly, speech therapy is not about making a child «speak perfectly». It is about helping them communicate more clearly, confidently and comfortably.
