BALLOON WEEK | MATRIC FINAL ASSEMBLY & RITE OF PASSAGE

Balloon Week began with one of the most poignant traditions in the St Andrew’s College calendar: the Matric Final Assembly and Rite of Passage.

For the Class of 2026, the occasion marked the culmination of five years of growth, friendship, learning and countless memories made in the blue and gold. Gathered in the Centenary Hall, the Matrics reflected on their journey at College, surrounded by the people who have shared in and shaped their years here.

Following the assembly, the Grade 12 pupils took part in the Rite of Passage, making their way through a tunnel of College staff and pupils to the stirring sound of the Pipe Band. Their procession carried them through the heart of the campus, past the Clock Tower and towards the Antony Clark Andrean Resource Centre.

There, they signed out of the register they first signed when they joined St Andrew’s College, continuing a tradition shared by generations of Andreans before them, and received their Old Andrean tie.

Their journey then continued through the Clock Tower arches and on to The Highlander for the Matric Luncheon, where they gathered with their peers and mentors to mark this significant milestone.

The Rite of Passage is more than a farewell. It is a moment of transition: from schoolboy to Old Andrean, from one chapter to the next, and into a brotherhood that extends far beyond the College gates.

To the Class of 2026, we congratulate you on all you have achieved and celebrate the men you have become. May you carry the values, friendships and spirit of St Andrew’s College with you wherever life takes you.

Once an Andrean, always an Andrean.

BALLOON WEEK 2026 | MATRIC FINAL ASSEMBLY

One of those moments that stays with you.

As the familiar words of “Jesus Calls Us, O’er the Tumult” loudly filled the Centenary Hall, our pupils gathered together for the Matric’s Final Assembly, surrounded by the memories, friendships and traditions that have shaped their St Andrew’s College journey.

For some, these corridors have been home for five years. Today, the singing carried with it a little more meaning, a little more emotion, and perhaps a realisation that this chapter is coming to an end.

From their first steps into the Blues to this final gathering as schoolboys, they leave behind more than memories. They leave a part of themselves in College and carry its spirit with them wherever they go.

A final hymn. A final assembly. A moment they will never forget.

CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS

Congratulations to Chris Benjamin (Espin 2017), who was named Kent Batsman of the Year at the 2026 Spitfire Kent Cricket End of Season Awards.

Chris enjoyed an outstanding season, scoring an impressive 1,400 runs across all formats for Kent.

A former captain of the St Andrew’s College 1st XI in 2016 and 2017, Chris was awarded his cricket colours in 2017. His achievements at College included receiving the Douglas Smith Cup for Batsman of the Year and the Robert Armitage Memorial Trophy for Cricket in 2016.

What an incredible achievement and a fitting recognition of a remarkable season.

Well done, Chris. St Andrew’s College is incredibly proud of you.

BALLROOM DANCING

Few activities develop a young man quite like ballroom dancing. Beyond the footwork lies a discipline that demands physical skill, emotional intelligence, creativity and social confidence in equal measure – a combination few other activities can match.

Lwandle P**e achieved 4th place in the Ballroom and 6th place in the Latin American sections of the Gold (Final) High School level of the Interschools/Inter-district Dare2Dance Ballroom dance competition. 

Well done, Lwandle. You have done College proud.
