REMINDER!!! THE GREEN LEARN2EARN YOUTH COMPETITION IS STILL ON (August 2026-28 February 2027)

To all youths (16-35years), the Green Learn2Earn (GL2E) is giving young people an opportunity to turn online learning into real action and meaningful change in their communities.

Here are the steps to follow:
1. Create your free account on Atlas Academy https://atlas.org.za/learn2earn/

2. Choose one of the 4 courses below:
🌱 Agroecology https://atlas.org.za/agroecology/
💧 River Health Monitoring https://atlas.org.za/river-water-monitoring/

3. Work through the course modules and activities and earn your certificate of completion.

4. Use what you have learned to design and implement a project that addresses a real community or environmental challenge.

5. Keep evidence of your work, including photographs, videos, meeting minutes and other project records.

6. Submit your project evidence and report to [[email protected]] with your full name by 23:59hrs on 28 February 2027.

Course Winners: Each winning project per course R 5,000.

Best Overall Community Project: One overall winner R 10,000.

𝐏𝐡𝐃 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 | 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚

How do people learn, adapt and act together to make and remake liveable urban worlds as climate pressures, infrastructure and everyday life change?

The ELRC (Rhodes University) is inviting applications for a four-year, full-time PhD scholarship exploring (un/in)habitability in African urban contexts in times of climate change.

The project will examine everyday practices, learning, knowledge and urban change, with fieldwork in Nelson Mandela Bay (South Africa) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).

The successful candidate will be based at the Environmental Learning Research Centre (ELRC) in Makhanda and co-supervised through Rhodes University and the University of Bayreuth. The scholarship is worth R180,000 per year, with research costs covered separately.

Towards the end of July, a team from the ELRC hosted an activation workshop in Joza Location, Makhanda, to introduce people to our YOMA Green Learn-to-Earn courses.

With the support of UNICEF and DUCT, ELRC scholars in conversation with local youth groups have created two online short courses. One focuses on Agroecology, teaching people about sustainable agriculture and how to grow food at home with minimal resources. The other introduces people to River Monitoring, and how to assess water quality for the benefit of communities and the environment.

The activation in Joza introduced people to the platform and the courses, and assisted them in creating profiles and signing up. 🌳 💦 🥕 They also promoted their new upcoming courses on "Greening Your Place" and "Introduction to Waste Economy". Watch this space!
