This week, Rhodes University welcomed a delegation from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for discussions on two important policy areas: recognising creative outputs as research and strengthening internationalisation in higher education.
The conversations brought together academics, professional staff, and government representatives to share experiences, strengthen implementation, and explore how policy can better support teaching, research, and global collaboration across South Africa's universities.

Congratulations colleagues!
The Rural Fisheries Programme, whose innovative digital platform Buna Africa received UN recognition last month, has begun implementing the system and training the National Fisheries And Aquaculture Authority of Liberia (NaFAA).
Buna connects fish farmers, governments, and technical experts to advance sustainable aquaculture across Africa.
“Thanks to funding from the World Bank, and to NaFAA’s support and generosity towards the Rhodes University training team, we are now one step closer to improving aquaculture production across the continent,” said Director Qurban Rouhani, pictured here (centre) with Z**i Kpadeh, Director of NaFAA, and Paul Chisenga, Software Developer for Buna Africa.
