Kingswood College, South Africa One of South Africa’s leading independent, co-educational, methodist schools, from Pre-Primary (Grade 0000) up to Senior School (Grade 12).

Kingswood College was founded 1894 in the tiny city of Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) in the Eastern Cape. Kingswood, founded in 1894, is an independent, Methodist boarding and day school that caters for girls and boys from pre-school to bridging year (post matric). It is very much a family school and has children from all over South Africa, as well as a number from various other countries. 73% of pupils, however, come from the Eastern Cape, giving the school its rich, local heritage. Set in beautiful grounds, Kingswood offers its pupils a well-rounded education, with wonderful facilities available in both the academic and sporting spheres. While all the traditional subjects and sports are offered, there are many other less well-known activities such as model engineering, rock climbing and Toastmasters to keep the pupils busy. The College is very proud to be a Methodist School but welcomes children of many different denominations and faiths. The Grade 12 pupils write the Independent Examination Board (IEB) matriculation examinations and the school has consistently gained excellent results. Information Technology is taught in the well-equipped IT Centre, and pupils have access to e-mail and internet facilities. Kingswood is renowned for its Music School, which has won international and national competitions in the past.

Parents Week is underway at Kingswood!

We had a wonderful start to Parents Week yesterday, with a host of events celebrating the many talents of our pupils.

The day culminated in an inspiring Best Speakers Competition, where our pupils impressed with their confidence and ability to engage an audience.

Well done to all our speakers for taking on the challenge, and congratulations to Caitlin Steymann, who won the Impromptu Speech, and Sophie Büttner, who took first place in the Prepared Speech category.

What a wonderful way to begin a special week of community. We look forward to sharing more Parents Week moments with our Kingswood families!

Kingswood College vs Graeme College

The Kingswood 1st XI welcomed Graeme College to City Lords for a Day/Night 50 over match in sunny but chilly conditions yesterday. With all the rain that has been around, it was a welcome change to get a full game of cricket in.

Graeme won the toss and chose to bat first. It proved to be a wise choice as they raced away to be 84 for 0 after 11 overs. Spin was introduced to the attack of the powerplay and that is where the game started to change. Captain Daniel Jakins (2 for 23) got the breakthrough to get his side back into the game. Simon Sheard (2 for 7) and David Loudon (1 for 15) bowled really well in the middle but the pick of the bowlers was Zacharias Montagna who claimed his maiden 5-wicket haul for the 1st XI. He finished with 5 for 28.

Kingswood got off to a slightly rocky start in reply in losing 3 early wickets. With the score on 39 for 3 at the supper break, the game was in the balance. Graeme started well after the break and didn’t allow the Kingswood batters to score freely. This lead to some unnecessary run-outs which hurt the run chase. Kingswood ended up being bowled out in the 24th over.

Yesterday, the Kingswood 1st XV gathered in the 1st Team Changeroom for a moving Jersey Ceremony, marking a special moment, especially for our Matric players as they returned to the space for the final time as schoolboys.

It was a fitting way to reflect on a highly successful season and the memories, friendships and achievements that will stay with them long after they have left school.

A special congratulations to Josh Mackenzie, who received the Honours Cap for an outstanding 47 appearances for the Kingswood 1st XV, having represented the team since Grade 10.

We also congratulated Luniko Marivate, who received an Honours Cap in recognition of his selection for the South African U18A Rugby team.

Well done to the entire 1st XV on a memorable season. We are proud of what you have achieved, and even prouder of the young men you have become.

A special thanks to our coaching team and the captains; Ross Thompson, Sandi Peter and James Mackenzie for their leadership over the season, and to our 2026 sponsors Tavcor Motor Group and Xerox who have backed the team all the way.

This morning some of our matrics visited the Kingswood Pre-Primary where their Kingswood journey began. Our littlest Kingswoodians were delighted to have a visit from Alyssa Govender, Uviwe Planga, Daniel Dold, Kayleigh Lucas, Emily Poultney and Cristiano Van Heerden, some of whom have been at Kingswood for as many as 15 years, having started in our Grade 000 class.

A memorable evening at Ridgmount!
Mr and Mrs Grové, alongside Mrs Van Molendorff, hosted the 2026 Prefects for their final dinner together at the College Head’s residence. In true Eastern Cape fashion, Mr Grové traded his suit for braai tongs to cook up a feast in celebration of this exceptional leadership team.
Thank you to our outgoing prefects for your steadfast dedication and service to Kingswood College this year. As we prepare to induct our new College Prefects this week, we wish the Class of 2026 all the best in their final chapter!
