Temperance Town Aftercare

An organisation serving the children of Temperance Town, Gordon's Bay. Keeping primary school children off the streets and out of harm's way.

Creating a place for safe play and life skill development The ministry to the children began at The Temperance Town Primary School in January 2010, with a Bible Study, given by Yvonne Mangia, in one of the Classrooms. It came to our attention that a number of children were fainting from hunger on Mondays, after week-ends without food their homes. As a result of this we started a feeding scheme in

July 2011, feeding approximately 30 children with one meal a day. During 2011 five boys between 6 and 10 years of age were r***d by older boys. We could not turn a blind eye to such behaviour and realised that something needed to be done to bring positive changes into the Temeperance Town Community. During the December 2011 school holidays we continued feeding approximately 80 children, a meal a day. Because of the boys who were r***d, and children left unattended and without adult supervision in the afternoons, a Committee was formed in April of 2012, and the Temperancer Town Aftercare came into being in order to keep the younger children off the Streets. The After-Care hours are 13.00 - 17.00 Mondays to Fridays. We employ 3 Teachers a who assist, and supervise, children with their homework. We also employ a lady who does the catering. The children are given sandwiches for their lunch, and receive a cooked dinner before they leave for home at 5 o'clock. During the school holidays the children receive 3 meals a day, as well as supervised holiday programs offered. We were given a Classroom to use in the Temperance Town Primary School premises until schools closed in December 2012, but lack of space resulted in moving the Aftercare into the Church premises for a time, until 8th March 2013 when the Aftercare has to vacate these premises. Over the past few months a house has been made available for us to use. It has had a major face-lift and we have been greatly blessed to be here. It is right next to the school which is fantastic as is is so convenient for the children who can get easily. We are hoping to be able to put up a couple of containers on the property so that we have a bit more space and can accommodate everyone better. We walk each day by faith and trust that the Lord will supply all our needs.

Our renovations of the Door of Hope ....Temperance Town Aftercare is complete! Painted with new kitchen installed....ready to continue to serve the local community

Upgrading of The Door of Hope is coming along nicely. New kitchen nearly completed. Thank you Harris Aluminium for gifting us the door and window. The whole building will receive a fresh coat of yellow paint in the next few days
