🎉 CELEBRATING 96 YEARS 🎉

Founders Day is always a meaningful occasion in our school calendar, and this year we were honoured to welcome back the Grade 7 Class of 2021 to celebrate with us.

All four of our 2021 leaders - Headboy Lwandle Bacela, Headgirl Emma De Lange, Deputy Headboy Daniel Olabode, and Deputy Headgirl Megan Phillips- returned to share inspiring messages with our learners and staff. Each speech was a heartfelt reflection on their time at Gonubie Primary and a celebration of the values and memories that have stayed with them.

We were honored to also posthumously award the Vitae Discemus award of 2026 to Mrs Sandra Stander. A member of the GPS family who gave of herself selflessly in every way possible.

After the cake was presented and the candles were lit, the hall echoed with the joyful voices of learners and staff singing “Happy Birthday”. Staff members then enjoyed reconnecting and chatting with the Matrics of 2026, once young learners at GPS, now young adults ready to take on the world.

As we reflect on 96 years of excellence, growth, and community, we look forward to the future with pride and purpose. Gonubie Primary continues to stand as a place where children are nurtured, challenged, and inspired.

Happy 96th Birthday, Gonubie Primary School! Here’s to many more years of learning, leadership, and legacy.

Our Grade 2 and 3 learners had a fantastic time at the fun chess event held at Abbotsford last Tuesday afternoon! ♟️

The excitement was contagious as they challenged themselves, learned new skills, and enjoyed every moment with fellow young chess enthusiasts. We are so proud of their enthusiasm, great sportsmanship, and willingness to give of their best.

Well done to all our budding chess players! 🌟

What better way to learn about fractions than with cake?

On Friday, our Grade 5 learners enjoyed a fun-filled practical Mathematics lesson where they explored fractions by cutting cakes into equal parts, comparing fractions, investigating different portions, and sharing them fairly. Once all the "sums" had been solved, they got to enjoy their delicious creations with a warm cup of hot chocolate.

Hands-on learning like this helps bring Mathematics to life, making abstract concepts meaningful, memorable, and, of course, delicious!

Take a look at some of the sweet moments and happy faces from our Grade 5 Cake Fraction Day. 🍰📚✨

Derby Day vs Hudson Park ♟️🏑🏐🏉🎾

This year's Derby Day against Hudson Park was filled with exciting contests, outstanding sportsmanship and moments to remember. Whether on the rugby field, hockey field, netball court, tennis court or at the chess boards, our learners represented the school with determination, resilience, and respect.

A sincere thank you everyone who contributed to making the day such a success. Your enthusiasm and support created an incredible atmosphere from start to finish.

We also extend our appreciation to Hudson Park for another memorable Derby Day. It's a tradition that celebrates not only healthy competition but also the friendships and mutual respect that make these occasions so special.

Today, our Gonubie Primary School Scouts proudly wore their scout scarves in celebration of World Scout Scarf Day.

The Scout scarf is a symbol of commitment, friendship, service and the Scout Promise. It represents the values of respect, responsibility, kindness, and helping others, reminding Scouts everywhere of the motto: "Once a Scout, Always a Scout."

We are proud of our learners who continue to live out the spirit of Scouting both in and out of the classroom. Thank you for wearing your scarves with pride and for being wonderful ambassadors of these values every day.

Our GPS Foundation Phase learners and staff had a wonderful time watching the educational dog show yesterday!

The talented dogs amazed everyone with their impressive skills, obedience and entertaining tricks, while also teaching our learners valuable lessons about responsible pet ownership and caring for animals.

A big thank you to the team for another fun-filled and educational visit. We loved every minute of it!
