What does a Tina Cowley Evaluation involve?
Before a child is enrolled at one of our centres, we conduct a personal one-on-one evaluation to fully understand their current level and specific needs.
Key areas we assess:
β’ Reading ability (accuracy and comprehension)
β’ Phonetic awareness (sound recognition and processing)
β’ Spelling level
β’ Visual skills (form perception, eye movement and focus)
β’ Auditory memory (listening and recall)
β’ Concentration and attention span
β’ Spatial orientation and sequencing
β’ General processing and learning skills
For more advanced readers:
We also include a more scientific reading analysis, which evaluates the technical side of the reading process, including:
β’ Reading speed
β’ Comprehension level
β’ Eye stops and regressions
β’ How much of a word is recognised at the first eye stop
β’ Overall reading efficiency
Duration:
The evaluation usually takes approximately 60β90 minutes.
Why is this important?
This allows us to:
β’ Identify strengths and challenges
β’ Place the child in the correct group
β’ Create a personalised development plan
