π MEET OUR STAFF | GRADE 4 LIAISON | MRS S PRELLER π
Next up in our Getting to Know Our Staff series, we're excited to introduce Mrs S Preller**, our Grade 4 Liaison who teaches Mathematics and Creative Arts at CMS ππ€
Let's get to know her a little better!
1. What do you enjoy most about working with Grade 4 learners at CMS? π
"One of my favourite things about teaching Grade 4 learners is their incredible energy, curiosity, and sense of wonder β¨. They are at such a special stage in their livesβstill needing guidance and support, but also beginning to spread their wings and discover their independence π¦.
Every day brings new questions, exciting ideas, and plenty of laughs. In fact, one of the best parts of teaching Grade 4 is that we seem to share the same sense of humour, so there's never a dull moment in our classroom! π
Teaching this age group is a wonderful adventure, and I love being part of their journey as they learn, grow, and discover more about themselves and the world around them π."
2. As the Grade 4 Liaison, how do you help learners adjust to the Intermediate Phase? π€
"As the Grade 4 Liaison, one of my most important roles is helping learners make a smooth and confident transition into the Intermediate Phase. Together with the other Grade 4 teachers, we ease learners into the year by setting clear expectations and gradually helping them develop greater independence and responsibility π.
We work closely with parents to ensure that any learner who may be struggling receives the support they need. We strongly believe that a child's success comes from a partnership between teachers, parents, and learners π.
Our goal is to help every Grade 4 learner feel confident, capable, and excited about the journey ahead π."
3. How do you make Mathematics fun and less intimidating for learners? β
"I try to make Mathematics fun and accessible by using stories, memory tricks, and acronyms to help learners remember important methods and steps π§ .
I also enjoy creating opportunities for learners to work together in groups, where they can support and learn from one another. Sometimes a concept explained by a peer can make all the difference! π€
Whenever possible, I incorporate practical, hands-on activities when introducing new concepts so that learners can visualise and experience Mathematics in a concrete way π’. I also love helping learners discover how Maths applies to everyday life, making learning more meaningful and rewarding.
My goal is to help learners see Mathematics not as something to fear, but as a subject they can understand, enjoy, and succeed in π."
4. What role does Creative Arts play in helping learners grow and express themselves? π¨
"Creative Arts provides learners with a welcome break from the structure of reading, writing, tests, and exams. It gives them the opportunity to use their imagination, express themselves freely, and explore their creativity in a safe and supportive environment ππΆ.
Through drawing, painting, singing, dancing, and drama, learners can communicate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas in unique ways. For some learners, Creative Arts is a chance to step into the spotlight β¨, while for others it provides a space to relax, recharge, and find calm.
I believe that Creative Arts plays an essential role in helping learners grow, not only creatively but also personally. It develops confidence, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills π±.
Most importantly, Creative Arts brings joy to learning and allows every learner the opportunity to discover talents they may never have known they possessed π."
5. If you could instantly master any new hobby or talent, what would it be? π₯
"I've always wanted to learn how to play the drums! π₯ It looks like such a fun and energetic way to express yourself and release stress or negative energy. I also love how vibrant and powerful the sound isβit seems like a really exciting instrument to play! πΆ"
β¨ We are grateful for Mrs Preller's enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication in helping our learners grow in confidence, independence, and a love for learning ππ€
