Please note that National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is currently open. You are urged to apply for space at EWC and also apply for funding through NSFAS website.

The NSFAS 2027 application cycle

“I am pleased to announce that the 2027 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application cycle officially opens today and will close on 31 October 2026. Funding outcomes will be communicated to successful applicants in December, providing greater certainty ahead of registration for the 2027 academic year. To all prospective applicants: do not wait until the closing date. Apply as early as possible. Applying early gives you time to verify your information, submit outstanding documentation and seek assistance if you encounter challenges.
We are also taking the application process to communities. Outreach teams will be deployed across provinces, districts, rural communities, townships and marginalised communities to ensure that information and application support reach eligible learners and prospective students. We will work with schools, provincial education departments, community stakeholders and institutions to assist those who may otherwise face barriers to accessing information about student funding. We are particularly pleased to have schools from the City of Johannesburg participating in today’s launch, including learners with disabilities. Their presence reminds us that access must be inclusive. Every learner, regardless of background or circumstance, must have an opportunity to access financial support for education and training.” Buti Manamela

Ekurhuleni West TVET College, Corporate Centre, hosted the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and a delegation from Beijing Polytechnic College (BPC) and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission (BMEC).

The delegation was led by DHET Director-General Dr Nkosinathi Sishi, accompanied by Chief Director: International Relations, Mr Xolani Khumalo, and Project Leader and Acting Regional Manager for Limpopo Province, Ms Basani Hlekane.

The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector, with a focus on skills development and international partnerships.

HISTORY MADE

Khomotso Moswete, former Ekurhuleni West TVET College student, won 1st Place as an Electrician at the South African National Artisan Awards recently held at the Radisson Hotel in Kempton Park

Winning this is more than a personal achievement for me.

As a young Black woman in a male-dominated trade — where we often have to work twice as hard just to be accepted — this win proves that we don't just belong here, we can lead and excel at the highest level.

This award represents every late night studying, every tough day on site, and every moment I stood tall against the odds. It proves that skill has no gender or race — only hard work and passion.

I carry the name of Ekurhuleni West TVET College with pride. Thank you to my lecturers and mentors who laid the foundation for this journey.

Most importantly, I want this to be a beacon for young girls across South Africa who love the toolbox. If you love the work, don't let anyone tell you it's not for you.

I hope you see my win and see your OWN potential. I'm honoured to break this ceiling and make the path wider for the next generation of female artisans.
