Today, the Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Morakane Mosupyoe, led a powerful 2026 Youth Sector Parliament at Ekurhuleni West TVET College, Kathorus Campus.
The Youth Sector Parliament was held during Youth Month as we commemorate 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising. Just like the Class of ’76, Gauteng’s youth showed up to shape the future. Today, young people from across Gauteng tackled the issues that matter most:
1. Unemployment & economic opportunities
2. Mental health & wellbeing
3. Access to quality education
4. Other socio-economic challenges affecting youth development
The Youth Sector Parliament provided a platform for young leaders to propose policy solutions. The Gauteng Provincial Legislature reaffirmed its commitment to participatory democracy because when youth speak, Gauteng listens.
Thank you to every young person who participated, shared, and stood up for change. 1976 inspired us. 2026 is yours.

Ekurhuleni West TVET College Hospitality students, together with Kempton Campus Hospitality lecturer Ms. Mbatha NA, proudly participated in a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunity hosted by BOM.
Eight of our talented Hospitality students played a hands-on role in preparing meals and refreshments for VIPs and supporters during the CoSACSA Provincial Arts and Culture event held on 09 - 10 May 2026 at EWC Boksburg Campus. The food preparation took place at the SA Chefs Association facilities in Auckland Park, giving students valuable exposure to a professional culinary environment.
This initiative allowed our students to apply classroom theory in a real-world setting, sharpening their skills in food preparation, plating, and service under pressure. The experience not only boosted their confidence but also deepened their understanding of industry standards and teamwork in high-profile events.
Ekurhuleni West TVET College extends heartfelt gratitude to BOM and the SA Chefs Association for their commitment to skills transfer and for investing in the future of our Hospitality students. Partnerships like these are vital in bridging the gap between education and employment.
