1.1 Purpose & Rationale of Qualification
To provide learners with a recognized certificate that enables them access to the Matriculation Level (Grade 12). At grade 11, learners can finally choose between Commercial and Science paths of learning.
1.2 Exit Level Outcomes
Learners will be more competent enough from Grade 10; everything will be emphasized in Grade 11 to prepare candidates for Grade 12. Learners may be allowed to choose paths but under very strict conditions. Mathematics, Maths Literacy and Sciences subjects are compulsory at this stage to ensure that learners are well grounded for matric.
• Grades 10 to 12 follow the National Curriculum for the National Senior Certificate, the exit point of the Further Education and Training (FET) level.

General Education & Training Certificate (GETC) – Senior Phase: Grade 9

1.1 Purpose & Rationale of Qualification
This GETC qualification is a compulsory schooling programme that must be attended by all candidates seeking to the new Curriculum Assessment Policy (CAPS). GETC certification which is achieved on completion of grade 8 has been approved by the revised Curriculum Assessment Policy (CAPS) of 2012.
1.2 Exit Level Outcomes
On completion of Grade 9, the learner will obtain access to the first year of the Curriculum Assessment Policy (CAPS) in Grade 10. This is entry level to the FET NQF band that is completed in Grade 12. A GETC Certificate may be issued on completion of Grade 9, which may enable the candidate not only access to the grade 10(NQF: 3), But also other skills programmes at NQF levels 1, 2 and 3
It assists the educator in the next grade or school to understand the learner better and therefore a learner’s progress and performance. to respond appropriately to the learner’s needs Grade 9 follow the national curriculum for the General Education and Training level.

• A learner in this phase MUST offer and complete nine (9) subjects.
• This is the last grade of senior phase.
• A learner in this grade is prepared for Further Education and Training phase (FET) and career choice.
• Learners choose subjects that they will carry through to matric in terms of their academic career.
• Learner’s progression is based on the recorded evidence in formal assessment tasks of the nine (9).
• Formal Assessment tasks are referred to as School- Based assessment Tasks (SBAs).
• School- Based Assessment tasks allow for learners to be assessed on a regular basis.
• School- Based Assessment contributes 40% in grade 9.
• School-Based Assessment (SBA) is compulsory component of progression marks in this grade.
• Parents and guardians are advised to monitor and support School-Based Assessment programme.
• All forms of assessment are appropriate to the age and development level of the grade 9 learner.

In this phase ensure that learners function at an adequate level in literacy and mathematics. Learner will obtain access of the Curriculum Assessment Policy (CAPS) in Grade 05. No certificate may be issued at this stage until the senior phase (NQF: 2) is completed.

1.1 Purpose & Rationale of Qualification
This GETC qualification is a compulsory schooling programme that must be attended by all candidates seeking to the new Curriculum Assessment Policy (CAPS). To be promoted to Further Education and Training phase leaner must complete the requirements for each grade of grades RR – 3 separately and to comply with the assessments and promotion requirement for each grade of grades R – 3.
1.2 Exit Level Outcomes
In this phase aims to increase the quality of education in the foundation phase (Grade R – 3). It also aims at improving learners’ performance in literacy and numeracy. No certificate may be issued at this stage until the senior phase (NQF: 2) is completed.
This is a foundation phase.
A learner in this phase MUST offer four (4) subjects.
Learner’s progression is based on the recorded evidence in formal assessment tasks.
