A huge well done to Pieter Houtman for his fantastic work in Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology (0445)!
Pieter created this impressive ship-in-a-bottle project, demonstrating creativity, patience, problem-solving and careful craftsmanship. From the construction of the ship and masts to the sails, rigging and final presentation, the project shows wonderful attention to detail and a growing understanding of materials, structure, scale and the design-and-make process.
📐 Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology (0445) encourages learners to identify, consider and solve problems through creative thinking, planning and design, while gaining practical experience working with different media, materials and tools.
Through the subject, learners develop technical and design awareness as well as important skills such as initiative, resourcefulness, enquiry, creativity and communication. The syllabus gives learners opportunities to turn their ideas into practical outcomes while developing the technical knowledge and designing-and-making skills that can support further study and the world of work.
Pieter’s project is a lovely example of these skills coming together in a finished product. It is especially rewarding to see an idea progress from planning and problem-solving to making, refining and presenting a completed design.
