Reflection from MAPELA Circuit Awards and Prayer Day

Last week Thursday, MASA had the honour of attending the Mapela Circuit Academic Awards, a celebration of academic excellence, hard work and dedication.

The occasion was a proud reminder of what is possible when learners, teachers, parents and communities work together towards a common goal.

For four consecutive years, the Number 1 learner in the Mapela Circuit has come from a MASA-supported centre.

Maintaining this level of excellence over four years is a significant achievement and reflects the power of consistency, quality teaching and a shared commitment to educational excellence.
Our pride does not end there. In Term 2, three of the Circuit's top-performing learners came from MASA-supported centres, while the Number 1 learner in the District also comes from a MASA-supported school.

These achievements reaffirm our belief that excellence can be nurtured in rural communities when learners are given the right opportunities and support.

One of the highlights of these results is the remarkable progress made by Mmantuntule Senior Secondary School.

In Term 1, the school did not have a learner in the Circuit Top 5. By Term 2, it proudly produced a learner in the Circuit Top 5. This is more than an improvement in rankings-it is evidence that focused support, committed educators and determined learners can achieve extraordinary results within a short space of time.

At MASA, we celebrate every learner who received an award, every teacher who went the extra mile, every principal who provided leadership, every parent who offered encouragement, and every stakeholder who continues to invest in the future of our young people.

We extend our sincere congratulations to all the award recipients and our appreciation to the Mapela Circuit for recognising and celebrating academic excellence.

As we prepare for the remainder of the academic year, these achievements inspire us to work even harder. We remain committed to transforming education through Whole School Development, strengthening schools, empowering teachers and ensuring that every learner has an opportunity to reach their full potential.

Excellence is not an event-it is a habit. Together, we are building a brighter future, one learner at a time.

Learning continues with purpose and consistency across all three MASA centres. Our Grade 11 and 12 learners remain committed as they strengthen their understanding and prepare for the 2026 NSC examinations. Each Saturday builds confidence, discipline, and academic progress.

At MASA, we remain dedicated to quality teaching, learner support, and nurturing environments that empower every student to succeed.

At MASA Maths and Science Academy, we believe educational transformation should be measurable, sustainable and accountable. Our Whole School Development Model works alongside schools to strengthen academic performance through long-term partnership rather than short-term intervention.

The results tell a compelling story.

📊Seritarita Secondary School 57.7% (2019) → 98.2%
(2025) +40.5 percentage point improvement

📊Mmatedu Secondary School 64.9% (2021) → 91.1%
(2025) +26.2 percentage point improvement

These outcomes are the result of years of consistent investment in academic support, educator collaboration, learner development, psycho-educational services, and school leadership partnerships.

For us, these are not just statistics.
Every improved result represents learners with greater opportunities, educators who are better supported, and schools that are becoming stronger institutions within their communities.
South Africa does not lack potential, it needs scalable models that deliver measurable outcomes.

At MASA, we are committed to expanding this impact to more rural schools through strategic partnerships with businesses, foundations, government and development organisations that believe in investing where results can be demonstrated.

If your organisation is looking for an education partner with a proven track record of measurable impact, we would welcome the opportunity to start a conversation.

Quarter 3 Reopens at MASA

Today, Maths and Science Academy (MASA) officially reopened its Quarter 3 academic programme across our three learning centres, marking the beginning of a critical phase in the academic journey of our Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners.

Quarter 3 is where resilience is built, knowledge is refined, and excellence is pursued. It is the term that demands focus, discipline, and consistency as learners prepare for preparatory and final examinations.

At MASA, we remain committed to providing quality academic support, experienced facilitators, mentorship, and an environment where every learner is empowered to achieve their full potential.

As our classrooms come alive once again, we are reminded that transforming education requires strong partnerships. We thank our schools, educators, volunteers, and existing partners for believing in our mission.

We also invite businesses, mining companies, foundations, and organisations committed to education and youth development to partner with MASA. Together, we can expand opportunities, strengthen educational outcomes, and invest in the future workforce of South Africa.

The future is shaped in today's classrooms. We are proud to be part of that journey.

Advancing Quality Education Through Collaboration

On Thursday, 02/07/2026, Mr Mweli, Director-General of the Department of Basic Education (DBE), together with district officials, visited Mmantuntule Secondary School as part of the Department's Winter Enrichment Programme oversight and support engagements.

Mmantuntule Secondary School is one of the schools where the Maths and Science Academy (MASA), in partnership with Komatsu South Africa, implements its Whole School Development Programme.

As an education support organisation, MASA works alongside schools to complement the efforts of the Department of Basic Education by providing academic support and learner development programmes that contribute to improved educational outcomes.

It was an honour to have one of our programme centres included in this important visit. The Director-General's engagement reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between government, schools, communities, non-profit organisations and the private sector in strengthening public education and expanding opportunities for learners.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Hubert Mathanzima Mweli, the district leadership, the management and staff of Mmantuntule Secondary School, and our valued partner, Komatsu, for their continued commitment to educational excellence and learner success.

At MASA, we remain committed to supporting schools through sustainable, high-impact programmes that strengthen teaching and learning while empowering young people to realise their full potential.

When government, schools, development organisations and industry work together with a shared purpose, lasting educational transformation becomes possible.

Investing in Learners. Strengthening Futures.

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Hennie De Beer from Weir Minerals ESCO to visit the MASA Winter Enrichment Programme in Limpopo.

The visit offered an opportunity to engage with learners, educators and school leadership, while experiencing firsthand the impact of our academic support programme across our partner schools.

This year's Winter Enrichment Classes are supporting 849

Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners from:
- Seritarita Secondary School
- Mmantuntule Secondary School
- Mmatedu Secondary School

Our Winter Enrichment Programme is designed to strengthen curriculum delivery, improve academic performance and prepare learners for their final examinations through focused support during the school holidays.

We sincerely thank De Beer and the Weir Minerals ESCO team for taking the time to visit our programme, engage with our learners and educators, and witness the work being done to transform education in our communities.

Partnerships between industry and education are essential in creating opportunities for young people and building a brighter future for South Africa.

Together, we continue to empower learners, unlock potential and transform lives through education.

A small act of kindness can have a lasting impact.
During the MASA Career Expo 2026 at Ga-Pila Community Hall, we identified 41 learners from different schools who were attending the event wearing severely worn-out school shoes.👞

Moved by this need, employees from Valterra Platinum and Komatsu South Africa partnered with Maths and Science Academy (MASA) to purchase and donate brand-new school shoes and socks to all 41 learners.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Kgaugelo Kekana, the performing artist who joined this initiative, demonstrating that leadership, compassion, and community service extend far beyond our respective professions.

This initiative reminds us that restoring dignity is just as important as creating opportunity. A new pair of shoes and socks may seem like a small gesture, but for a learner, it can restore confidence, encourage school attendance, and reinforce the belief that they are seen, valued, and supported.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this initiative a reality. Together, we continue to prove that meaningful partnerships can transform lives—one learner, one family, and one community at a time.

Every percentage point represents a learner whose future is being shaped through dedication, consistency and teamwork.

Our Q2 2026 MASA Academic Results reflect the commitment of our educators, school leadership and learners across our partner schools:
• Seritarita Secondary School (Partner since 2021): 93%
• Mmatedu Secondary School (Partner since 2023):
89%
• Mmantuntule Secondary School (New Partner - 2026):
85%

These results remind us that sustainable improvement is built through collaboration, high expectations and continuous support.

As we enter Q3, our focus is clear: build on this momentum, improve these results even further, and ensure every learner has the opportunity to succeed. We appreciate every teacher, principal, school management team and learner who continues to make this journey possible.
Together, we continue to build for the future.
