News from the office of Vision in Action Training

Courses for April and May.

Two short courses in "Sales Technique and Customer Service" will be offered from 20 -21 April and 4-5 May. The very practical course in Receptionist Skills will be offered on 12&13 May; A Call Centre Refresher Workshop on 24,25 & 26 May. Finally, our popular "Merchandising and Display" course will take place on 22-23 May. Our signature Workreadiness Program will run from 8 – 19 May. If you are interested in any of these, please contact the office of VISION IN TRAINING at 011 791 1229 and speak to Thato.

Training Although 22 candidates indicated that they will attend the Work Readiness Program from 6—17 March, a disappointing 7 students registered on the first day. Although it is nice for the trainer to work with smaller groups, and students also enjoy the training more and they grow and group together faster and more intimately, it remains a shame that such a small number attended. The opportunity of training and the better prospects of employment missed, cannot be compared with the time and costs spent while on training.
The Work Readiness Program is well known amongst employers, in particular Mr Price. VISION IN ACTION students were extremely successful in finding employment as sales assistants and call centre agents.
We have been visiting retail stores in various malls and shopping centres. Store managers have reacted very positively on the content of the WRP and would like to give candidates an opportunity to gain practical experience. However, store managers in most cases, do not have the authority to make such decisions, and we were referred to the head or regional offices. Such contact will be made in this month.

My name is Sydney Masengemu. I am writing this message as my testimonial today. The programme that I attended with Vision In Action was the best step that I took in my life. Vision In Action trained me well about customer service which improved my customer service skills.

I was given an opportunity by Vision in Action to attend an in-store training at a Mr. Price Sport store and fortunately enough, they were impressed about me being customer focused, so they offered me employment. This means I was 1st employed after over a year of looking for employment and being unemployed.

Further good news is that after 3 months of working at Mr. Price Sport, I received an employment opportunity to work at Multichoice and this opportunity I got from a customer who was impressed about my customer service skills, this is where I currently work now since October 2016 and I thank Vision In Action for teaching me to improve myself in life and giving the opportunity to take the first step of my way forward.

I am really thankful for meeting Mr. Pine Pienaar (assessor and coach) who personally coached me about being able to have a focus in life and take responsibility. I am grateful for the first step of a good I received from Vision In Action. Keep shining people's lives and enlightening people, and also putting people's visions in action.

Good news are always welcome: here are three pieces:

The current class scored an average of 35% for the maths on day 1 of their course. Today 9 days later their average had been 93%!!
Also: in the independent assessment by Jumpstart-project all the members of the class passed the assessment - with 80% the lowest score!!

Also today we received the news of an ex-learner who are working at an insurance companies call-centre have managed to secure positions for 2 her classmates. The beautiful part of this is how a group of strangers becomes a community that cares through the commitment of Pine, Niels and Malebo!! Congrats to the three stalwards of Vision in Action.

Finally, in looking for unemployed students that could apply for a receptionist position at one of our sponsors 80% of the ex-students we phoned was employed!!!

Vision in Action and Homo Novus celebrate the grace we received!!

Training is going well - Niels is excited about the attitude and participation of the class. It is not all about sitting in a classroom - friendships are formed.
