September is definitely an exciting month and there's no denying ECD owners know exactly how to make the most for Spring day activities, Heritage day celebrations and get graduation rehearsals and prep in full swing!

But here's where most miss one of the biggest entrepreneurial opportunities of the year. This final quarter is your golden moment as a business but most owners get caught up being an educator that they forget they are also entrepreneurs. If we want to raise our standard for the new year we have to do more than hope and wish.

Here are our top 3 things ECD owners should be doing this month;

1. Partnering - send out sponsor invites to retailers and suppliers for partnerships, contributions, sponsors or even donations. This helps towards your year end graduations, replenishment or restorations for the new year.

2. Connecting - this is when your center really needs to shine especially if you want to encourage new enrollments for 2027! Post daily on social media and community WhatsApp & facebook groups. Share exciting moments, activities, funny stories or just the daily routine - the point is to be visible, get noticed and build trust in the community and with parents.

3. Marketing & Advertising - this doesn't start in December & January, this starts now. Schedule an open day, invite parents to come view or send their kids for a free play day, advertise holiday care programs for December, specials for early enrollments or registration discounts.

If we want to be recognized as professionals in the industry then we need to start taking the right steps in that direction.

Join our ECD Business Challenge where we show you the exact steps to end this year prepared so you can start the new one powerful.

If you started 2026 motivated and determined
but daily survival kept you stuck in the same cycle

If you can’t take a day off because the business won’t function without you

If the thought of a child leaving or payments being delayed keeps you up at night

If you’re tired of feeling guilty for not paying yourself or your staff a decent salary

If you know you have the resources, compliance, training, and building — but you’re still not growing

If you’re overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next

If your passion refuses to give up — but you know it needs a plan to be effective

If you see 2027 as the year you finally lead a successful business that impacts children, the community, and gives your family stability

Then it’s time to challenge yourself!
2027 is a moment away.
Make the next few months count so you start January with more than hopes and wishes.

Sometimes it's not passion or productivity that staff lack - its pressure, emotional frustration and physical exhaustion that takes over! As an ECD owner our responsibility is as much to our team as it is to the kids.

It's time to take care of the grown ups who take care of our children!

5 tips to help your team

1. Meet Weekly as a Team - Keep everyone updated on center progress, share parent compliments or concerns, and invite ideas for improvement. Regular check-ins build trust and collaboration.

2. Have an Open Door Policy - Allow teachers to schedule private one-on-one conversations. This creates a safe space for challenges or ideas they may hesitate to share in group settings.

3. Take Personal & Professional Interest - Ask about career goals, offer upskilling opportunities, and show genuine care for their personal lives. Support during burnout or family challenges makes a huge difference.

4. Offer Incentives - Recognition doesn’t always mean money. An extra day off, a gift voucher, a certificate, or even a heartfelt thank-you card can boost morale and loyalty.

5. Provide Resources & Guidance - Equip teachers with tools and systems that reduce stress and help them perform at their best. Relieve pressure where possible and co-create solutions.

Mental & physical exhaustion & frustration is real and can effect even the strongest people! Let's take off some pressure.

đŸŒ±Spring has always symbolized fresh new beginnings.
These simple details improves your center immediately & inexpensively and prepares your center for year end viewings!

đŸ„’đŸ„•. Veggie Garden/flower beds - this is not only an activity and project that the kids can be part of but it also supplements your menu, saves money, promotes healthy foods and encourages parent & community relationships.
👉Reach out to parents & community retailers to contribute/sponsor or donate seeds, soil and other supplies.

☘Mud Kitchens/Tyre obstacles – simple wood structures or brightly painted tyres that spark sensory & movement play not only looks impressive but is an inexpensive outdoor setup that encourages organic child development, provides a visual for parents and a simple practical teaching resource for teachers.
👉Reach out to retailers and suppliers to donate or sponsor pallet wood and tyres

📩Treasure Boxes – Place crates at reception for parents to drop off recyclables and craft supplies - toilet roll holders, old magazines, containers, fabrics or items that could be repurposed.
👉This not only helps parents feel involved but also helps the center accumulate reusable items & craft resources & saves money.

🎹Fresh Paint – a fresh coat of paint can transform a center. Speak to supply retailers for any cans of paint or painting accessories that can be sponsored or donated in exchange for marketing their product or public acknowledgement that can help with their sales.
👉Ask parents to donate any leftover paint they have lying in their garages or storage. Get high school kids or volunteers to help paint. This encourages community partnerships and saves money.

🏡Clean & coordinated – never underestimate a clean uncluttered space. Throw out broken/damaged toys, keep paperwork and resources organized, let staff wear coordinated & appropriate clothes .

This is not comfortable, but it needs to be said.

It’s time to stop glorifying struggle. Passion is the spark, not the salary. Love for children is the motivation, not the means of survival.

Yet in ECD, we’ve allowed passion to be treated as payment — and it’s destroying quality, dignity, and respect for practitioners and owners alike.

đŸ‘©â€đŸ« Practitioners study, train, and sacrifice. Their work is motivated by passion, yes — but it’s also how they feed their families. How can we expect commitment when survival is uncertain?

🏠 Owners risk, invest, and carry the financial strain. For most, their centers are also their family’s income. How can we provide quality when we can barely cover necessities?

As long as we accept “bare minimum” as the standard, nothing will change. And if we keep pretending it’s okay, we lose the right to complain.

Change starts with us:
Acknowledgment — stop pretending survival is acceptable.
Accountability — we’ve contributed to this standard, but we don’t have to settle for it.
Action — challenge the cycles, change the story, and create a fairer standard for practitioners and owners.

🚀 OUR ECD BUSINESS OWNER CHALLENGE is your game changer.

This approach isn’t for everyone. It’s for those unafraid to confront reality, to challenge themselves, and to change their situation because we show you how to not only increase your impact but your income too!

💡 Passion powers us. But only strategy, accountability, and action will free us.

She’s not alone.
So many owners reach out this time of year — stressed, overwhelmed, unsure what to do next.
Here’s the truth: panic advertising in December or January is too late.
There are only 17 weeks left in this year😯 — and while many are busy working IN their business (reports, graduations, year‑end prep)
successful owners are also working ON their business.

What prepared owners are doing right now:

1.Visibility 👀
If you’re not seen, you can’t be found. No fancy website needed — just an online page. Post 2–3 times a week in community groups. Consistency builds trust

2.Advertise 📣
Create specials for December holiday programs or discounts for early January enrollments. Share this weekly — create interest & curiosity

3.Engage đŸ€
Host 2 community events a month. Think pop‑up craft tables at malls, open days, flyers at primary schools or doctor’s rooms. Connection builds confidence.

4.Prepare 📂
Keep admin up to date, curriculum ready, and your center organized. Show families you’re professional and reliable.

5.Join the Challenge 🚀
Our ECD Business Owner 30‑Day Challenge gives you step‑by‑step entrepreneurial planning, preparing & planting — so you’re ready to reap in 2027.

The best way to predict the future
 is to create it.

There's alot of information out there which can make it easy to start your center misinformed with unrealistic expectations... and that's a recipe for disaster.

Look, an ECD business is undeniably rewarding and impactful... but it’s also risky, stressful, and the reality is that 90% struggle to survive, stagnate, or close down with time and money down the drain. Why? Here's the most common misconceptions that cause owners to stumble.

Tools don’t equal success. If it did, more owners would be successful.
A building, qualifications, compliance, resources and a love for kids are necessary tools — but they don’t guarantee sustainability.
Holding a hammer doesn’t mean you know how to build.

Hope is not a plan.
Going in without a clear strategy, expecting enrollments alone to cover costs, is unrealistic. It’s like driving until the petrol runs out with no destination in mind.

Self‑employment is not the same as business ownership.
Most owners get caught working IN the business instead of ON it. You can’t steer the ship if you’re stuck rowing the boat.

ECD is not a side hustle. It’s accountability, responsibility, and for many, the source of family sustainability. When your center struggles, it impacts not only children and families — but yours and staffs livelihood. That’s why you can’t afford to “take a chance.”

Let your passion be guided by purpose and practical, professional strategies not just hope and day to day survival.
