I may have missed it, because I haven't seen any social media post about it yet....but here goes.

We had the World Cup in 2010. Crime dropped in the host cities while it was on (GFSA loves pedaling this narrative). Not because the government suddenly became competent — but because they flooded those areas with police resources for a few weeks. The moment the event ended and those resources were withdrawn, things slowly went back to normal.
We’re going to see the exact same thing in 2026. (I hope you take note GFSA)

Temporary policing is not a solution. It’s just a show for the cameras.

At the same time, we’re watching the government mess around with firearm training standards again. The Minister of Education was given a clear deadline to finalize the new training framework… and missed it. Again. Now there’s talk of lowering the standards instead of fixing the real problems.

This is dangerous.

Lowering training standards doesn’t just make it “easier” for people to get fi****ms. It means we’re going to have more firearm owners on the streets who are poorly trained, lack proper judgment, and don’t fully understand the responsibility that comes with carrying a gun. That directly affects the safety of every citizen — including the ones who don’t even own fi****ms.
We already have serious problems with police capacity and response times. If the state can’t properly protect its people, then responsible citizens need to be properly equipped and properly trained to protect themselves and their families. Removing Section 13 and weakening training standards at the same time is the worst possible combination.

You cannot lower the bar for who gets to carry a firearm and then act surprised when mistakes, negligence, and tragedies increase.

This isn’t about making it harder for criminals. Criminals don’t do training courses. This is about making sure that the people who are legally allowed to own and carry fi****ms actually know what the hell they’re doing.

Temporary police deployments won’t save us. Lowering standards definitely won’t either.

Just saying.

EDIT: Just after posting this.....I received a notification from South African Professional Firearm Trainers Council (PFTC) that SAQA extended the qualification for a further 6 months.

As the day for the Minister of Education to extend Qualification 50489 draws closer, I believe this poster from SafeCitizen is perfectly worded to carry the message forward to the public....

Lowering training standards is an absolute disaster for public safety.
Competence is our shield.

Firearm Training Standards matter. Safety depends on them.

SAGA is actively fighting for your rights as a legal firearm owner....Please follow their Facebook account to remain updated on developments.

Yet....Govt is still pushing to remove self defence as a reason to own a firearm...Ironic, and the latest crime stats....just MORE proof the SAPS do not have the capacity to protect citizens, and then in concert with the FCA Amendment Bill....we have the Minister of Education stalling on making a decision to extend the firearm qualifications....removing quality control and oversight in the training of the safe and responsible use of fi****ms....Criminals in South Africa have more rights than law-abiding citizens....

Of all the other training providers, I have engaged about the proposed changes to the training industry....One has stood out. We have never met, but we want to thank you for your voice during this time when ALL Instructors should be standing together.

Guns Inc supports this initiative fully and without any reservations. In fact, I am willing to place that on record, so if SAGA, or SafeCitizen, wants to schedule a interview with me, you are most welcome to do so. Let Instructors raise their voices, speak to the citizens, and explain the catastrophic outcomes that may lay ahead if this proposal by the training industry is passed. The South African Professional Firearm Trainers Council (PFTC) is currently doing a better job at ensuring that the standards are being upheld, and compliance is met. I am an accredited Instructor, use International Firearm Training Academy - ITA as my lead service provider for training materials. Other Instructors may be using a different lead service provider for their training material, which is of no concern to me....just engaging with the relevant people like those mentioned in this post, means we can speak to the public, and give them options to stand with us, and stop this senseless attack on training providers. If you don't want to, then don't, but I urge you to engage and speak out. Fortis Pro Active Defence Solutions, you have the YouTube platform that can facilitate this and moderate the conversation. Let us, the Instructors, that support this initiative raise our voices, give us the opportunity to speak our minds and help promote the initiative. The days of sitting back and NOT being engaged on a personal level are OVER. The QCTO and SASSETA may not like what we have to say, but we aren't here to win popularity contests. All we want, is to be heard, then go on with our businesses, and ensure that the South African Citizens get to know us and hear the truth about the wreck that is about to be unleashed on the Firearm Training Industry.

I know of at least one other training centre, that may go ahead and also go in record with you. I will be calling her in the next 2 or 3 hours, because of all of the other training centres out there, their vocal opposition has been echoing mine.

Even if I'm the only instructor willing to raise my voice, it's a start, and I have some ideas that I would like to share.

Saw this poster on our local Sport Shooting Club WhatsApp group...I don't know the original source of the poster....but it hits the nail on the head!!!! Add to this, the proposed Amendments to the Fi****ms Control Act....and we have the recipe for disaster. Make this go VIRAL!!!!

Photos from SafeCitizen's post 06/05/2026

Spread the word people....This cannot be allowed to be pushed through. Imagine a person who bought his training certificate walking around the street with a "legal" firearm, but doesn't know how to use it in a responsible manner.....Will you feel safe? This is why Guns Inc supports the South African Professional Firearm Trainers Council (PFTC), SafeCitizen, SAGA, and every other organization OPPOSED to this proposed training framework. I have said it once, and will repeat it. DON'T FIX SOMETHING THAT ISN'T BROKEN!!! Forwarded post from Limpopo Firearm Academy

Six reasons why removing PFTC oversight of firearm training puts every gun owner, every security officer, and every community at risk. Read it. Share it.
