Celeste Greeff (ARAD)

Celeste started her early ballet training with Gail McConaghy. She attended the National School of the Arts and completed her RAD Major Examinations with Marjorie Sturman. She was also taught Classical Greek by Jean Beckley and Spanish dancing by Mercedes Molina. Celeste danced with Pact Ballet in the late 1970s and Modern with Adele Blank’s Free Flight Dance company for many years.
Over the past 30 years Celeste has taught the RAD children’s syllabus and Vocational Examinations up to Solo Seal and professional status. She served on the East Rand Dance Festival committee and was Chairperson for five years plus has been on the Val Whyte Bursary committee for over a decade.
She is a popular guest teacher and an accomplished adjudicator.
Celeste joined the Edenvale Ballet Academy in January 2009 and still runs her private studio for senior dancers nearby. She has successfully trained pupils that have excelled at ballet schools and competitions Nationally and Internationally.

Frances Sutton

Frances began her ballet training with Cecchetti teachers in Port Elizabeth. On moving to Johannesburg, she changed to RAD. After completing her major exams under Marjorie Sturman, she joined her former teacher Gail McConaghy as an assistant.
Frances graduated from JCE as a junior primary school teacher specialising in physical education. In 1985 Frances took over a Kempton dance studio, later merging there with Viv Williamson of Gem Dance Studio. Frances took over Gail McConaghy’s Edenvale ballet school and was later joined by Laraine de Ville.
She served on the RAD’s Central Gauteng Panel for a few years and the East Rand Dance Festival Committee. Celeste Greeff joined Frances when Laraine retired from active teaching in 2009. Since 1999 Frances has also taught classical ballet at St Katharine’s School for Girls in Parktown. She specialises in teaching ballet to pre-school and primary-school aged pupils.

Children aged five years and upwards are eligible to enter in either these exams or the RAD Class Awards.
Younger pupils of four years participate in the RAD’s programme, “Dancing to your own tune.”
The format is very creative and musical and introduces skills in a happy and playful setting.
The Pre-Primary and Primary in Dance Syllabus is a natural progression as are the next Grades. Badge Tests, concerts, festivals and competitions give pupils the chance to perform on stage in front of an audience.
Selected pupils have the opportunity to audition for the Val Whyte Junior Ballet Performances and other productions. Talented pupils take part in various bursaries, i.e. The Central Gauteng Regional Panel’s Youth Bursary and the Val Whyte Bursary Award.

The Royal Academy of Dance also conducts
Summer & Winter Schools periodically.
Junior pupils progress to the RAD Grade 5 level and then as seniors can advance to the RAD Vocational Programme with Celeste Greeff’s Major Studio. This programme takes students through the Vocational examinations from Intermediate Foundation to Professional level.
Reasonable fees are charged. Siblings receive a discount. Except for tiny-tots, pupils attend lessons twice a week. Interested parents and pupils are welcome to attend two free introductory lessons without obligation.
