Today, 24 September, marks Heritage Day, an official public holiday established under the Public Holidays Act (Act No. 36 of 1994). This day serves as a vital anchor for the constitutional values of diversity, national unity, and equality in South Africa. Legislative Compromise: Originally observed as Shaka Day in KwaZulu-Natal, the date was incorporated into the national calendar following parliamentary negotiations in 1994, transforming a regional commemoration into an inclusive national symbol of unity.
