We are beyond proud to share that our production of Disney’s Moana JR has received a nomination for Best Theatre Production for Children and Young People at the Cape Town Theatre Awards (formerly the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards)! 🌊✨
To see our young performers, creative team and the entire SSIPA family recognised on such a prestigious platform is incredibly special. This production was built with heart, passion, courage and a deep love for storytelling, and this nomination is a celebration of every student, parent, teacher and creative who poured themselves into the journey.
From Motunui to the stage… what an adventure it has been. 💙

About last night… 🎭✨
The Merchant of Venice took to the stage for the very first time at the SSIPA Funda Festival 2026. Currently part of the English Literature curriculum for Grades 9–11, the production brought the prescribed text from the page to the stage in an effort to help learners engage with and experience the story in a more immersive and meaningful way.
Through theatre, literature comes alive, allowing learners to connect with the themes, characters and emotions beyond the classroom. 📚🌍
The Funda Festival kicked off on a high with an opening night attributed to the theme “Africa Sings”. Audiences enjoyed the star studded performances of our students at Sonwa Sakuba Productions & Institute for the Performing Arts and we can’t wait to do it again!
