Selborne College is proud to congratulate Dr Nolwandle Mini, Head of our IsiXhosa Department, on the outstanding achievement of receiving her Doctorate of Philosophy in African Languages. The Doctoral Dissertation - 𝑨𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒔𝒊𝑿𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒂 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒔𝒊𝑿𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒂 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒖𝒇𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒐 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑴𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒆.

Dr Mini’s academic journey reflects her deep commitment to the development of IsiXhosa as a subject, the advancement of multilingual teaching practices and lead transformation on how IsiXhosa First Additional Language is taught and assessed. Through her research, she has contributed valuably to new knowledge aimed at improving multilingual teaching practices, strengthening links with forms of assessment and advancing language education practices and African language pedagogy. Her work is rooted in the belief that language is far more than communication, it carries history, identity and worldview perspectives. As Dr Mini so powerfully states, “𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆.”

Dr Mini has expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for granting her the strength, wisdom and perseverance to achieve this milestone. She also extends sincere appreciation to the Headmaster, her colleagues and the Selborne boys whose support and encouragement inspired her journey and enriched her understanding of the methods and challenges involved in teaching IsiXhosa as a First Additional Language.

We celebrate this remarkable accomplishment and thank Dr Mini for the passion, leadership and excellence she continues to bring to Selborne College.

| DERBY WEEKEND |
Selborne College is delighted to welcome Stirling High School on 19 & 20 June 2026 for our annual Derby Day and the final fixture of the term.

The programme begins on Thursday evening with a Music Evening hosted at Clarendon High School, followed by a weekend of action.

We encourage all parents, Old Boys, supporters and friends of the Selborne to support the Selbornians, and be part of an exciting weekend.

| MEN'S MENTAL HEALTH MONTH |
This month, Men's Mental Health month, we are reminded of the importance of looking after ourselves and looking out for one another.

At Selborne College, brotherhood is more than standing together in moments of success, it is being there for each other through the challenges of life too. A simple check-in, listening without judgement or a word of encouragement can make all the difference.

To every Selbornian and to the men and boys in our community, you are not alone, you do not have to carry burdens alone. Reach out, speak up and remember that your brothers stand beside you - because YOU MATTER!

| ANGLING |
Congratulations to the following Selbornians who represented their respective clubs in the Border Rock and Surf League this past season: Cameron Rheeder, Ryder Barclay, Nathan Randall, Luke Jacobs, and Sebastian Botha.

Their strong performances throughout the season contributed to Selborne College being awarded the trophy for the top-performing school, an outstanding achievement.

Congratulations to the following learners: Ryder Barclay has been selected for the Border U21 Team, Nathan Randall and Luke Jacobs for the Border U16 Team to compete in Eastern Province in 2027, while Staff Member, Mr Bazil Frewen, has been selected for the Border Senior B Angling Team and will complete in the National Tournament in Struisbaai in 2027. Special congratulations to Cameron Rheeder, who was named the Top U21 Angler in Border Region.

Well done to these anglers on their dedication, sportsmanship and success!

| DEBATING |
There were no arguments at the Debating Society Bake Sale on Friday, 5 June 2026! The fundraiser was a great success, providing well deserved sweet treats for learners and educators after a long week of exams.
