I'm a mom of two with fifteen years experience and I'm passionate about early childhood development.

Operating as usual

Did you know . . . that the Moms and Babes Workshop was developed by an Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist for babies in their first year to enhance development and strengthen the bond between mother and baby.

Nicky Lasch is a Paediatric Physiotherapist with over 30 years of clinical experience in the treatment of babies and young children. Nicky has specialised in Neurodevelopmental Therapy and M.A.E.S. Therapy. As a clinical supervisor, guest speaker and owner of a multidisciplinary practice in Johannesburg, Nicky remains passionate about Early Intervention and its impact on the developing brain.

And . .

Kate has been working in the area of Paediatrics since 1986. She has specialised in the areas of Sensory Integration, Neurodevelopmental Therapy and DIR/Floortime. Kate presently works with babies, toddlers and young children who are at risk due to Prematurity, Developmental delay, Syndromes, Sensory Regulatory Disorders, Sensory Integration Disorders, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Cortical Visual Impairment and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

See you soon for lots of fun! 🥳

Whoop for a whole new year - full of opportunities 🥰

Our experienced team of early childhood educators and developmental experts have designed a range of fun, engaging and age-appropriate activities that are specifically tailored to your baby's needs. Through our program, your baby will develop essential skills such as hand-eye coordination, social interaction, language and communication, and much more.

Babes groups are split into groups, Tiny Babes (2 To 6 Months), Babes (6 To 9 Months) and Busy Babes (9 To 12 Months).

Sleep 😴 or lack of is always a hot topic in our classes

Sleep routines are incredibly important for babies and toddlers; they provide structure, promote healthy sleep habits, and contribute to their overall well-being.

Routines establish consistency and predictability in a child’s daily life. Babies and toddlers thrive on routine and knowing what to expect. When they have a consistent sleep routine, it helps create a sense of security and familiarity. They understand that bedtime is approaching, and their bodies and minds prepare for sleep. This predictability helps them transition from wakefulness to sleep more easily, reducing resistance or anxiety around bedtime.

Never to little or in some cases to big for tummy time!

Tummy time describes the times when you place your baby on his or her stomach while your baby is awake and someone is watching him/her.

Tummy time is important because it:
👶 Helps prevent flat spots on the back of your baby's head
👶 Makes neck and shoulder muscles stronger so your baby can start to sit up, crawl, and walk
👶 Improves your baby's motor skills (using muscles to move and complete an action)
👶 From the day they come home, babies benefit from 2 to 3 tummy time sessions each day for a short period of time (3 to 5 minutes). You can lengthen the sessions as the baby grows and enjoys tummy time. As babies grow older, more tummy time helps build strength for sitting up, rolling over, crawling, and walking.

It is such a joy to see your little one progressing and strengthening during this period - and even more fun when you place a mirror in front of them and watch them chortle as they recognise that gorgeous face in front of them.

Just the best thing you can do as a mom. Learnt so much about my little one and myself at our classes!

Yippee! TOTS starts on Monday the 23/1/2023
Looking forward to a term of fun in the sun!

So excited to be back in our space after a fabulous break. Lots of fun coming our way.

Couldn’t agree more!

“"Put them in water or take them outside.” It was the first useful parenting advice I ever got. “Sleep when the baby sleeps”? I think the polite word for that gem is poppycock. But this particular axiom has saved me many times over.

I don’t remember how old my son was when I called my mom in tears because I couldn’t stop his, but his age was probably measured in weeks. Maybe days. “Nothing is working; I don’t know what else to try,” I sobbed. “He’s not hungry or sleepy or wet.” “Try giving him a bath,” she suggested. “Or bundle him up and take him outside for some fresh air. I always say to take them outside or put them in water, and usually, the grumpiness goes away.” It worked that day, and it’s worked many times since. We’ve done baths at 10 a.m. I’ve paced our driveway with a baby in my arms at 2 a.m. And today, at 5:15 p.m. when my children were fighting for the 17th time since they got home from school and I was about to lose it, instead I put one in the bath and I sent the other outside and now maybe all three of us will survive until Dad gets home.

Almost nine years later, it still works.

I can’t give you advice about sleep schedules or feedings or Montessori-approved toys. I don’t know what we’re gonna do about Tik Tok and Snapchat in a few years. But when they’re falling apart at the seams for no apparent reason, take them outside or put them in water.

Oh, and it works on grown-ups, too."

We love this! 💖
