𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗧 💚

Class of 2002 alumna, Marcelle Keet, has built an extraordinary career defined by passion, perseverance and excellence.

During her time at Clarendon, sport was at the heart of Marcelle’s journey. Hockey and water polo were her passions and some of her most treasured memories were made representing Clarendon, building lifelong friendships and experiencing the sisterhood that makes our school so special.

After matriculating, Marcelle pursued her dream of playing and coaching hockey while studying at Potchefstroom University and the University of Pretoria. She went on to represent South Africa for over a decade, earning 148 international hockey caps and 45 water polo caps! Alongside her sisters, Lee Keet Stewart (Head of Sport at our sister school, Clarendon Primary School for Girls) and Samantha Keet, she also represented South Africa at the FINA World Championships in water polo!

Her hockey career included representing South Africa at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 and 2014 Hockey World Cups. She later moved into coaching, serving as Assistant Coach of the South African Women’s Hockey Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, before leading the ACT U21 Women’s Team to their first Australian National Championship title in 41 years!

Marcelle has recently been appointed National Pathways Head Coach (Women) for Hockey Australia, where she is helping develop the next generation of hockey players and coaches while creating environments where athletes can thrive.

Despite these incredible achievements, Marcelle says she is most grateful for the people she has met, the athletes she has coached and the impact she has been able to make through the sport she loves.

Reflecting on her time at Clarendon, Marcelle says Clarendon taught her resilience, discipline, humility and the importance of showing up with purpose. Marcelle expressed how she was shaped by the most incredible teachers, classmates and friends who encouraged her to reach for the stars and that no matter where hockey has taken her around the world, East London and Clarendon will always be home!
