The "Building a Culture of Reading in the Home" Course

📚 Do you want to build a CULTURE of reading in your home? Do you want to develop AVID and SKILLED readers?

⏰ ILG has a TWO-HOUR course, “Building a Culture of Reading in the Home,” for parents with children aged 5 to 14.

▆ The course digs into "7 blocks" for building a culture of reading in the home (See attached image).

💻 Wayne meets with a set of parents twice within a two week period over Skype or Zoom (Two 60 minute meetings).

🌏 ILG currently works with families in South Africa, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and the U.S.

USD 68, RMB 588, ZAR 1,388. Tuition can be paid through PayPal, U.S. bank transfer, or EFT. Some parents choose to put together a Zoom meeting with another one to three families so they can split the tuition cost between the two to four families. The family that hosts, or the host family, works directly with Wayne (ILG coach) to select dates, times, etc.

WRITING WORKSHOP WITH TEACHER WAYNE

- Would you like your child to be an AVID and SKILLED writer?

- Wayne, ILG coach, teaches young people, AGES 7 AND UP.

- Writing GENRES: Narrative/fiction, opinion/persuasive, and informational/nonfiction).

- Instruction is focused on the writing PROCESS (Idea generation, planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing, and sharing).

- Finished pieces are celebrated during end-of-unit PUBLISHING PARTIES with parents, extended family, and/or guardians.

- Instruction is delivered ONLINE (Minimum group size: 4 young people; maximum group size: 8 young people).

- Wayne trained under Lucy Calkins, director of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP), Columbia University, New York. He has taught, coached (instructional), coordinated, and led in the U.S. and China for 16 years. Wayne is currently writing his doctoral dissertation.

- R 988 per month per child.

Greetings from KZN.

Misty and I (Wayne) are here to support South African parents with all things literacy, age 5 to 14, TCRWP (Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Columbia University, New York). We offer writing workshop, reading assessments (accuracy, fluency, literal and inferential comprehension), phonics, word study, and more.

At the moment we teach via 40-60 minute one-to-one Zoom sessions. In-person (KZN) sessions to resume later. You can book a virtual “meet ‘n greet” with Misty or me to talk more about your child’s literacy needs and whether ILG can support you and your family.
