School administration and parents have to give our teachers the support they need so that they can function and everyone can flourish!

🚨 WE CAN’T HOLD TEACHERS RESPONSIBLE FOR CLASSROOM CONTROL WHILE TAKING AWAY THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO MAINTAIN IT.

Teachers are told to establish expectations, maintain order, keep students engaged, protect learning time, manage disruptions, de-escalate conflict, and create a safe environment for every child in the room.

But what happens when a student repeatedly refuses to follow directions?

What happens when consequences have little meaning, removal from class is discouraged, administrators send students straight back, parents challenge every disciplinary decision, or teachers feel they have to document the same behavior over and over before anything meaningful happens?

At some point, we have to acknowledge the contradiction.

You cannot demand that a teacher control a classroom while simultaneously limiting their authority to enforce the rules.

This isn't about giving teachers unlimited power or returning to outdated forms of discipline. Students deserve fairness, understanding, due process, and support. But support and accountability are not opposites.

And there are 20, 25, or 30 other children in that classroom whose education matters too.

When one student can repeatedly disrupt learning and the teacher has little meaningful recourse, the consequences don't disappear. They are simply transferred to everyone else.

Teachers shouldn't have to choose between endlessly managing disruption and actually teaching their class.

If we expect teachers to be responsible for what happens in their classrooms, shouldn't we also give them the authority, support, and backup necessary to do the job?

Teachers, is this what classroom management feels like now? 🍎
