SUBJECT: FIRST DRAFT OF THE OCTOBER/NOVEMBER EXAMINATION TIMETABLE
DATE: 03 September 2026

Greetings to the FSSH student community, we hope this finds you well.

The Faculty Council of Social Sciences and Humanities wishes to alert all students to the release of the first draft of the October/November 2026 Examination Timetable.

Students are urged to carefully check the draft timetable against their registered modules and ensure that all examination dates, times, and venues are correctly reflected.

Students who identify any examination clashes, missing modules, incorrect module information, or any other problems with the draft timetable are encouraged to report these issues as soon as possible. Early reporting will allow the Faculty Council to consolidate the affected cases and escalate them to the relevant University structures for attention before the final timetable is released.

The Faculty Council remains committed to ensuring that students academic concerns are properly raised and addressed. We therefore encourage all students to remain vigilant, check their examination schedules carefully, and report problems promptly rather than waiting until the examination period.

Greetings to the FSSH student community, we hope this finds you well.

The FSSH Faculty Council is collecting an updated list of Social Sciences and Humanities students who have not received their Spring Graduation confirmation letters or are experiencing challenges with their graduation status.

The previous list received an influx of submissions from students across different faculties, making it difficult to compile a clear and faculty-specific list for escalation.

We therefore request FSSH students only who are affected to complete the new Google Form below:

https://forms.gle/DvNTfAScDXMHXVey5

The Faculty Council will be meeting with the Deputy Dean to raise these concerns and ensure that affected students cases are properly escalated to the relevant university structures.

Students are urged to provide accurate information and not to struggle in silence.

To: FSSH Students
Subject: PHYSICAL ASSESSMENTS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK
Date: 23 August 2026

Greetings to the student populace. We hope this finds you well.

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty Council notes with serious concern the attempts by some lecturers to schedule physical tests tomorrow, despite the University’s official communication confirming that teaching and learning remains online until 28 August 2026.

We further condemn the arrogance and disregard displayed by certain lecturers towards the realities confronting students. It is unreasonable to expect students to write physical assessments while shuttle services have not yet commenced and the promised meal assistance programme for unfunded students is yet to be implemented.

Following our communication with the Deputy Dean, students are advised that tests scheduled for tomorrow are postponed. We are further engaging to ensure that the remaining tests scheduled for this week are either moved online or postponed until proper arrangements are in place.

IMPORTANT: All students who have tests scheduled this week must urgently provide the lecturer’s name and course code to the Faculty Council. This will assist us in engaging the Faculty and ensuring that no student is unfairly disadvantaged.

Subject: JOINT FACULTY COUNCIL STATEMENT ON THE MASS MEETING WITH THE MEC
Date: 17 August 2026

Greetings to the student populace of the University of Fort Hare, in hope this finds you well.

The East London Campus Faculty Council joins the call by the East London Campus SRC for all students to attend the Mass Meeting with the MEC.

This is not merely a meeting. It is a platform for students to confront the challenges that have been allowed to persist, demand accountability, and place the lived realities of students directly before the MEC.

For too long, students have carried the burden of institutional failures, administrative delays and unresolved challenges. Today, we must make it clear that students cannot be expected to remain silent while decisions affecting our education, welfare and dignity are made without us.

We call upon every student to come forward and not only as spectators, but as active participants in the struggle for a better and more just university.

MASS MEETING DETAILS

Date: 17 August 2026
Time: 10:00
Venue: ABC Hall

Bring your questions. Bring your frustrations. Bring your demands. Bring your voice.

The strength of this engagement will not be measured by what is said from the podium, but by the collective power of students who refuse to be ignored. An organised student body is an unstoppable force.

Let us fill ABC Hall.
Let us speak without fear.
Let us demand accountability.
Let us defend the interests of the student body.

From: FSSH FACULTY COUNCIL
To: EAST LONDON FSSH STUDENTS
Subject: STUDENT ACCOMMODATION CRISIS
Date: 12 July 2026

Greetings to the student populace, we hope this finds you well.

The FSSH Faculty Council stands in full solidarity with the Student Representative Council (SRC) and every student affected by the ongoing accommodation crisis at the University of Fort Hare, East London Campus.

We are deeply concerned by the uncertainty facing more than 700 students following developments relating to SKG Properties. No student should be expected to continue with academic activities while unsure of where they will be accommodated.

We acknowledge and support the SRC's ongoing engagements with University Management and NSFAS to secure a sustainable and student-centred solution. As constitutional substructures of the SRC, we remain committed to ensuring that fairness, justice, and the interests of students remain at the centre of these engagements. We will continue to do everything within our power to defend the mandate entrusted to us by the students we represent.

While engagements continue, we believe that University Management must urgently consider alternative academic arrangements that do not disadvantage students. These may include the temporary postponement of face-to-face classes, or moving of teaching, and learning online while the accommodation crisis is being resolved.

We therefore support the SRC's position that academic activities cannot continue as though everything is normal while hundreds of students remain uncertain about their accommodation. We urge all students to remain united, disciplined, and guided only by official communication from the SRC and the FSSH Faculty Council.

We call upon University Management to act with urgency and provide a fair, transparent, and lasting solution that guarantees accommodation for every affected student. Until then, we remain steadfast in working alongside the SRC to ensure that no student's dignity, safety, or right to education is compromised.

Kind regards,
FSSH Faculty Council

From: EL FSSH Faculty Council
To: UFH Social Work Students
Subject: Approved Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Funding
Date: 07 July 2026

Greetings to the student body at large. We trust this message finds you well.

It is with great pleasure that we share some positive news. Through the collaborative efforts of the University of Fort Hare SRC and the Faculty Council of Social Sciences and Humanities, we engaged the relevant university stakeholders to advocate for the needs of our Social Work students.

For many years, Social Work students have received little to no financial support for their Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) practical training. We are proud to announce that this has now changed.

The Faculty Council, elected by your confidence and trust, is pleased to inform you that student support allowances for Social Work practical training have been approved by the University MEC. The approved allocations are as follows:

- SWP314/E (Third Year): R2,400 per student
- SWP324/E (Third Year): R2,400 per student
- SWP410/E (Fourth Year): R9,000 per student

These allocations are intended to assist with travel and administrative costs associated with Work-Integrated Learning practicals. This is a significant milestone, as it is the first time that such financial support has been secured for Social Work students.

Please note that these funds will be credited directly into students' bank accounts to assist with their practical training. However, the amount will be debited to the student's university account, meaning it forms part of the student's account balance and will need to be settled at a later stage.

While we celebrate this achievement, we also acknowledge that there is still more work to be done. We remain committed to ensuring that this support becomes a sustainable initiative for future Social Work students while continuing to advocate for improved student support across the Faculty.

We encourage all qualifying students to make full use of this opportunity and wish you every success during your practical training.

To: UNIVERSITY OF FORT HARE STUDENTS
From: UFH EAST LONDON FACULTY COUNCIL
Subject: Joint Faculty Council Statement on Allegations of Improper Examination Marking
Date: 04 June 2026

Greetings to the student body at large. We hope this statement finds you well.

As the Faculty Council elected by the student populace, our foremost responsibility is to serve and protect the interests of students. It is therefore with great disappointment and concern that we address the allegations that certain examinations are being marked by tutors and students who are currently enrolled in the same modules, owing to their proximity to or association with respective lecturers.

These allegations pose a serious threat to the integrity and fairness of the academic assessment process. The involvement of students in marking modules they are enrolled in creates a clear conflict of interest and raises concerns regarding impartiality, confidentiality, and equal treatment. Such practices undermine students' confidence in the credibility of examination results and diminish trust in a system that should be based solely on merit and fairness.

We wish to state unequivocally that, as Faculty Councils, we will work closely with the affected student bodies, academic departments, and relevant university authorities to ensure that these allegations are thoroughly investigated and appropriately addressed. We remain committed to pursuing this matter with integrity, transparency, and determination, and to ensuring that students receive the fairness and justice they deserve.

We assure all students that we do not take these allegations lightly. We therefore call upon any student who possesses relevant information, evidence, or firsthand knowledge regarding this matter to come forward and assist in ensuring that the truth is established.

The integrity of the examination and assessment process is fundamental to the credibility of our institution and the academic success of its students. We will continue to advocate for accountability and fairness at every stage of this process.

Kind Regards,

UFH East London Faculty Council
