LEADERSHIP UPDATE – Introducing our New Principal
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Shane Walker as the new Principal of East London Science College, effective October 2026, as our current Principal, Mr. Roger Matroos, goes on retirement after a successful 13-year leadership stint at the school.
Mr Walker has 20 years of experience in the education sector and has held various senior leadership positions in the field.
Mr Walker holds a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, as well as a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree.
His philosophy is that “education is not simply about preparing learners to pass examinations, but it is about equipping them to become capable, responsible and confident individuals who can contribute meaningfully to the South African economy at large.”
Outside the school environment, Mr Walker enjoys spending his leisure time with his family and watching sports. He is also an avid rugby fan, and has coaching experience in both Cricket and Hockey.
We are excited about this new chapter in the school’s history, and look forward to all that Mr Walker has to offer.
We wish Mr. Walker all the very best, as he takes up this leadership position to continue the legacy of East London Science College in the East London community.
