During a special ceremony, the newly elected learner leaders were presented with their official badges and formally entrusted with the responsibility of serving and representing the learner body throughout their term of office.
The Representative Council of Learners (RCL) is a democratically elected leadership structure that serves as the voice of learners within a school. The RCL plays a vital role in promoting communication between learners, educators, school management, and the broader school community. Its primary responsibility is to represent the interests, concerns, and aspirations of learners while fostering discipline, accountability, unity, and a positive school culture.
To be elected to the RCL, learners must demonstrate strong leadership qualities, good conduct, integrity, responsibility, commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to serve as positive role models. Members are expected to uphold the values of the school and lead by example both inside and outside the classroom.
This year, eight outstanding Grade 12 learners were elected from a highly competitive group of 315 Grade 12 learners enrolled at Ulwazi High School for the 2026 academic year. Their election reflects the confidence and trust placed in them by their fellow learners and the school community.

- Head of Security: Ayabulela Mofu
As the elected leadership structure, these learners now carry the responsibility of representing and leading a learner population of approximately 2,160 learners at Ulwazi High School during the 2026 school year.
The importance of the Representative Council of Learners within a school cannot be overstated. It provides learners with an opportunity to participate actively in school governance, promotes democratic values, encourages learner involvement in decision-making processes, and helps create a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment. Through their service, RCL members develop valuable leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and organisational skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Furthermore, the positive impact of the Representative Council of Learners extends beyond its members. By advocating for learners, organising school activities, supporting discipline, and promoting unity, the structure contributes significantly to the overall success and wellbeing of the school community.

The entire school community is encouraged to support and work closely with the Representative Council of Learners throughout their term of office, which will conclude at the end of the 2026 academic year. Together, learners, educators, parents, and staff can help ensure that Ulwazi High School continues to thrive and uphold its proud tradition of excellence.
