Every teenager I have ever sat with has arrived at some point carrying the same quiet weight: the feeling that their world is oscillating, that they cannot trust what they feel, that the enormity of life is pressing in from all sides. Some have whispered thoughts of not wanting to be here. Most have simply stopped talking, because they were convinced — deeply convinced — that no one would understand.

What I have learned over 30 years of working with young people is this: that experience is not unique, but the teenager living it has no way of knowing that. And the moment you tell them it is normal, their nervous system resists you — because to them, being seen means being understood specifically, not grouped.

This is the work I do inside Nomveliso Mbanga Teencoaching™. Not to minimise what a teenager is carrying. Not to replace the clinical support some young people genuinely need. But to sit with them inside the overwhelm, name it with them, and hand them the tools to move forward — one honest conversation at a time.

Somebody shared with me last week(I can't remember who) that there's a teen who faked her own kidnapping because she wanted to see her parents reaction.
This obviously broke my heart. And the 1st thing that came into my mind was that she obviously felt unseen,unheard,unimportant and neglected.

Parents get really caught up in their own lives(Career,relationships etc) and provide only the basics for their kids(because that's what their busy schedules allow them to shame). Now teens may understand this but a teen going through so many changes,transitions and emotions really need a parent that is there 💯

I feel like baby girl wanted to shift her parent's focus ikhe ibekuye for once.
Also if you know you're this kind of parent,support your teens by signing them up for teencoaching as this will strike a balance for the both of you❤️
