Interviews are increasingly about more than qualifications and job titles. Employers also want to understand your practical skills, how you work with others, and how you respond to challenges.
Before your next interview:
β
Review the skills and behaviours listed in the job description.
β
Prepare examples that demonstrate problem-solving, communication, resilience and teamwork.
β
Structure your answers using the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action and Result.
β
Focus on what you contributed and include measurable results where possible.
β
Be honest about challenges and explain what you learned from them.
Your experience matters, but being able to clearly explain the skills you gained from it can help you stand out.
What skill would you highlight in your next interview?

Some lessons stay with you long after you leave the classroom.π
For Curro Mossel Bay alumna Zandri van Greunen, dedicated teachers sparked a lifelong love for language, encouraging her to think critically and express herself with confidence. From reciting poems in English class to exploring linguistics, her school journey was shaped by passionate teachers who believed in their learners.
Looking back, Zandri is deeply grateful for the teachers who made learning meaningful and helped shape her future.

Take action. Give back. Change a life.
Mandela Day reminds us that meaningful change often begins with a single act of service.
For Curro Alumni, it's an opportunity to reflect on the teachers, mentors and experiences that helped shape our journeys and to consider how we can pay that forward.
Many of us are where we are today because someone believed in our potential, opened a door, or encouraged us to dream bigger. This Mandela Day, let's honour Madiba's legacy by investing our time, skills and kindness in others.
Whether it's mentoring a young person, supporting your community, or simply dedicating 67 minutes to helping someone in need, every act has the power to make a lasting difference.
Because when we lift others up, we help create opportunities for a brighter future.
How will you spend your 67 minutes?

Is your CV ready for your next opportunity? π
Your CV is your first introduction to an employer. Make it count with these five quick tips:
1. Tailor your CV: Use keywords from the job description. If they want social media skills, highlight the specific platforms and campaigns you've managed.
2. Professional summary: Use two to three lines to explain who you are, what you offer and what type of opportunity you are seeking. (e.g. Marketing graduate with content creation experience seeking an entry-level digital role.)
3. Show your achievements: Show the difference you made instead of simply listing your daily tasks. Instead of βManaged social media accounts,β try βBoosted social engagement by 25% over three months.β
4. Keep your skills relevant: Include skills that are valuable in your chosen industry and remove outdated or unrelated information.
5. Align online: Ensure your LinkedIn dates and titles perfectly match those on your CV and keep your public profile professional.
Remember, your CV should not be a one-size-fits-all document. Take the time to refine it for each opportunity and let your experience, strengths and potential stand out.
