Cross Country

Our Cross Country boys have been making their mark in the North Durban League Runs, with two events under their belts so far.

On Friday 31 July, the boys took on the course at Curro Salt Rock, before heading to Holla Trails on Friday 7 August for a run hosted by Ashton International.

With Athletics Term in full swing and Cross Country training twice a week, the boys are certainly finding their stride! We have already seen a number of Prep runners finish in the top 10 in their age categories, with boys from Grade 1 right through to Grade 7 getting out there and giving it their all.

Most importantly, it is fantastic to see such a large group of boys embracing Cross Country and enjoying the challenge of every run.
Well done to all our runners.

Next stop: Umhlali Primary. All the best to our boys taking on this week’s run!

Hockey is back!

What a way to kick-start the season! A big thank you to Umhlali Prep for a fantastic day of hockey.

Our boys brought their true Prep spirit to the field, swapping rugby boots for gum guards and hockey sticks, and making their mark on the turf!

Well done boys, a great start to the season! Now, it’s time to reset and get ready for Highbury this coming weekend.

Today, we celebrate the women who lead, nurture, inspire and make a difference.

On 9 August 1956, thousands of courageous women marched to the Union Buildings, standing together to challenge injustice and change the course of our country’s history.

Today, we honour that spirit in our own DPHS community. To our incredible female staff, our Prep moms, grandmothers and all the women who support our boys and our school, thank you.

You juggle, organise, encourage, teach, nurture, solve, support and somehow keep all the balls in the air!

Happy Women’s Day!

Leading the Way

Congratulations to Sloan Brouard on his appointment as DPHS 2026 Hockey Captain and to Malachi van Zyl on being named DPHS 2026 Cross Country Captain.

These appointments are a reflection of the commitment, character and leadership both boys have consistently demonstrated. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to watching them lead their teams with pride this season.

Congratulations, Sloan and Malachi! Your DPHS family is behind you every step of the way.

Developing Leaders, One Opportunity at a Time

At DPHS, we don't have prefects. Instead, we believe that every Grade 7 boy should have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership throughout the year.

One of the ways we achieve this is through our unique Prep Pal Programme, where each Grade 7 boy mentors a group of younger boys across the grades. Meeting twice a term, our Prep Pals become mentors, friends and guides, building meaningful relationships while learning that leadership is about serving others. Alongside this, our Grade 7s take on a variety of leadership roles throughout the year, preparing them for the transition to high school and beyond.

As part of this journey, our Grade 7 boys recently took part in an engaging leadership workshop facilitated by Justin Bodill. Through interactive activities, team challenges and group discussions, they explored the question, "What makes a good leader?" The session reinforced a powerful message: leadership is less about titles and more about character, how we show up each day and how we treat those around us.

A father of two DPHS Prep boys, Justin is a Learning and Development Manager at the Mr Price Group, specialising in talent, culture and leadership development. He also works as a performance coach with several leading school and club sports teams.

Thank you, Justin, for investing in our boys and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
