Those pro Palis who are cheering for the imperialistic rhetoric by Turkey’s President Erdogan, about “freeing Jerusalem” just because this rhetoric is anti Jewish- as usual need some historical reminder.
If they think that the Palestinians are mistreated by Israel, and need Turkey to free them- oh sweet child of mine.
Historically, even the idea of Arab nationalism- let alone an obnoxious one as the Palestinian cause has been made to be- was suppressed very brutally by the Ottoman empire, that Erdogan wants to revive.

➡️ 1811-18, The crashing of the First Saudi State.
Emir Saud bin Abdulaziz managed to expand across most of the Arabian peninsula, taking control of the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Such strive for independence has hurt the Ottoman prestige, and brought an invasion by proxy forces- resulting in the destruction of the Saudi capital of Diriyah, thousands of military and civilian casualties, the ex*****on of Emir Abdullah bin Saud (the successor of Emir Saud) in Istanbul, and the forceful dismantling of Najdi self-rule.

Freedom of expression? Nope.
Instead- censorship and banning of Arab cultural and political societies.
The Arabic press in Beirut, Damascus, and Cairo was censored by the state. Organizations advocating for Arab linguistic rights and regional self-governance were targeted, forcing intellectuals like Abd al-Rahman al-Kawakibi into exile.
➡️ 1904-14, Military campaigns in Asir (today’s Saudi Arabia) and Yemen.
Imam Yahya and Muhammad ibn Ali al-Idrisi in the Yemeni highlands and in Asir-sought local autonomy. The Ottomans weren’t too excited about the idea and deployed thousands of troops to suppress both movements.

To enforce centralizing “Turkification" policies, Ottoman governor Sami Pasha launched heavy military campaigns against Druze and Bedouin populations across Transjordan and Syria. The suppression ended in indiscriminate massacres of thousands of people, public hangings of local tribal leaders, and forced enlistment into the Ottoman military.

When Arab intellectuals and politicians met at the First Arab Congress in Paris to demand official recognition of Arabic in government and regional administrative decentralization, the Ottomans placed key attendees under state surveillance.
➡️ 1914, Arrest and purge of Arab officers.
The Ottomans arrested Major Aziz Ali al-Misri, a decorated officer and co-founder of the nationalist society Al-Ahd, and sentenced him to death by a military tribunal on charges of sparking public protests across Cairo, Damascus, and Baghdad.
Later, a diplomatic pressure forced them to exile him instead.
Alongside him- dozens of Arab officers were forced out of their positions.

After the outbreak of World War I, The Ottomans seized document archives left behind in the French consulates in Beirut and Damascus. After finding correspondence between local Arab leaders, secret nationalist societies, and European diplomats regarding Arab administrative reform- raids, mass arrests, and military tribunals followed.
➡️ 1915–1916 Public Executions in Beirut and Damascus. 32 Arab nationalist leaders publicly executed by hanging.
➡️ 1915-18 Systematic Exiles and Mass Deportations.
As collective punishment for real or suspected Arab nationalistic sympathies, the Ottoman military regime deported thousands of prominent Arab families, civil servants, and military personnel from the Levant to central Anatolia.

To neutralize potential Arab insurgencies, the Ottomans imposed a blockade around Mount Lebanon, preventing the entry of grain, supplies, and livestock leading to the death of roughly 200,000 to 300,000 civilians-nearly half the region's population.
➡️ 1916-19, Depopulation and Repression in Medina.
When Sharif Hussein bin Ali declared the Great Arab Revolt in June 1916, Ottoman forces forcibly deported over 40,000 Arab residents of Medina to Syria and Anatolia, took civilian grain reserves, and executed suspected revolt sympathizers.
