We are incredibly proud to see our Head of Primary School Sport and Coaches Manager, Coach Jonty Robinson, representing South Africa at the World Masters Hockey World Cup in Schiedam, Holland.

As captain of the South African Men's Over 35 team and coach of the South African Women's Over 35 team, Jonty is making an outstanding impact on the international field.

We wish him the best of luck as he takes on the semi-final this Saturday and coaches the women's team as they compete for 5th and 6th place.

Earlier this year, Ms Karen Pitamber, Primary School Head of Operations and Senior Primary Teacher, embarked on a life-changing journey after being awarded a prestigious student exchange scholarship to the University of Siedlce in Poland through a partnership with the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

We were delighted to welcome Karen back to Durban Girls’ College and hear about her incredible experience. Here’s what she had to share:

“My Spring semester on a student exchange scholarship at the University of Siedlce in Poland was a profoundly transformative experience, both academically and personally. During my time there, I engaged deeply with the university’s curriculum through a diverse array of coursework, exploring subjects such as classroom methodologies, social pedagogy, technology education, and strategies for working with children with special educational needs.

Beyond my role as a student, I was incredibly honoured to collaborate with my professors to co-lecture on STEAM-based education in the preschool classroom, allowing me to share my own insights while learning from their expertise.

This academic foundation was brought to life through invaluable hands-on experiences. I visited both mainstream and special needs schools to connect directly with local teachers and students, and I expanded my professional knowledge by attending a conference focused on science and technology education in primary schools.

Ultimately, the scholarship extended far beyond the lecture halls. Having the privilege to travel across the country and immerse myself in Poland’s rich history and vibrant culture made this an unforgettable chapter of my educational journey.”

Our Durban Girls' College and Clifton School delegation is having an extraordinary experience at the Hwa Chong Asia-Pacific Young Leaders Summit (HC-APYLS) in Singapore – a prestigious international leadership programme that has brought together student leaders from across Asia, Europe, North America and Africa since 2006 to collaborate on global challenges and build cross-cultural understanding.

Throughout the week, our students have been working in diverse international teams to tackle the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together, they are researching real-world challenges, exploring issues affecting their own communities, and designing innovative, AI-supported solutions that have the potential to create meaningful and sustainable impact.

As the only two African schools represented at this year's summit, Durban Girls' College and Clifton School are proud to share South African perspectives while learning alongside peers from around the world. It has also been a tremendous honour for our delegation to be welcomed by the South African High Commissioner in Singapore, celebrating the importance of global partnerships and youth leadership.

We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing this opportunity with curiosity, compassion and courage as they develop the skills to become the thoughtful, collaborative leaders our world needs.

Like a diamond which forms under pressure rather than breaks, the hope we have in Christ gives us strength we don't have to manufacture for ourselves. We may not understand God's every move, but we do know him. Despair is not for us. Hope is.
