At Roots To Wings Academy, we provide a nurturing, structured and individualised environment where neurodiverse children are supported to communicate, learn, regulate and grow with confidence.

Every child experiences and responds to the world differently. 🌿

Sensory-seeking behaviours may be a child’s way of finding the movement, visual input, touch or deep pressure their body needs to feel regulated and engaged.

These behaviours are not simply “naughty” or disruptive. They are a form of communication, and understanding the need behind the behaviour helps us provide meaningful, supportive alternatives.

At Roots to Wings Academy, we use individualised, child-centred strategies to support regulation, communication, confidence and independence.

Always remember: sensory support should be based on the individual child’s needs. Weighted items should only be used with guidance from an occupational therapist.

What is proprioception?
Proprioception is often called our "body awareness" sense. It helps us understand where our body is in space and how much force to use when we move.
Activities such as pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, and squeezing can provide proprioceptive input that may support body awareness, coordination, focus, and emotional regulation for some children.
Every child experiences sensory input differently, so understanding their individual needs helps us create meaningful learning opportunities.
