Grade R teacher qualification requirement updates.
Thousands of Grade R (Reception year) teachers face new qualification requirements:
Teachers must upgrade to a minimum NQF Level 6 qualification or risk losing their jobs.
This is due to Grade R being fully integrated into formal schooling, raising professional and training standards.
Impact:
-Could improve early childhood education quality
-Puts pressure on teacher training and employment planning

Marking and Quality Assurance
All marking of scripts has been completed and results are being finalised through standard moderation and quality assurance processes.
The quality assurance body (Umalusi) has been involved from start to finish — ensuring consistent standards across provinces and subjects.
Response to Exam Breach
There was a minor breach in some scripts during marking, which triggered an investigation involving:
-forensic audit,
-statistical analysis,
-interviews and checks,
-verification of scripts and marks.
No results have been certified yet — this is normal until the standardisation process is complete; the breach does not automatically delay results.
The DBE and Umalusi have both stressed that the breach appears limited to a small number of cases and has not affected the overall marking process or credibilit
