Kalasthaana Place of Arts isn’t just an institution—it’s a living, breathing celebration of India’s artistic soul, brought to life right here in South Africa.
Rooted in a deep reverence for tradition, Kalasthaana is dedicated to preserving and promoting the timeless beauty of Indian fine arts—language, music, and dance—while making them accessible and vibrant for today’s generation. At the helm is Principal Pregashni Chetty, an alumna of the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, whose training infuses the institution with authenticity, discipline, and artistic excellence.
The musical heartbeat of Kalasthaana is led by Srimati Vanesperi Chetty, a seasoned recording artist hailing from a distinguished lineage of musicians. Her voice carries both heritage and emotion, supported seamlessly by Sri Stanley Chetty on the harmonium, adding depth and richness to every performance.
On the rhythmic front, Thiru Sage brings dynamic energy on the tabla, shaped by rigorous training under respected South African gurus Archarya Ratha Isaiselvamani and V Karthiegasen. Beyond the stage, he extends his passion to the airwaves as the host of a weekly radio show on Phoenix FM 105.4, airing every Sunday from 3 PM to 5 PM—spotlighting and uplifting South African South Indian artists.
Kalasthaana’s offerings go beyond performance. The institution provides soulful, culturally rich music services for life’s most meaningful moments—from funerals and nelangus to pre-wedding ceremonies—ensuring every occasion is elevated with grace and tradition.
For those eager to learn, Kalasthaana opens its doors every Saturday at Shri Chidambaram Nadarajan Alayam in Northbury, offering Bharatanatyam and modern dance classes. Here, students don’t just learn steps—they inherit a legacy.
Kalasthaana Place of Arts is where tradition meets passion, where culture is not only preserved but performed, taught, and lived.
