I’m dedicating June to gifting all I know about Parenting with Awareness to you. Awareness is foundational. It’s step one. How do you move forward or shift a situation without it? It may seem obvious but it’s not. We run on auto. On default. And awareness brings us into presence. Into what’s real. What’s needed. And helps us build that which will serve our child and family the most. It’s us waking up to a better way. Yes, even in the most complex of situations. Stay close

My own journey as a parent of a complex child moves between trying to fix & solve challenges & surrendering to what is.

What I find is that when I’m in ‘fix it’ mode I am less present to my child. I am more stressed about what’s ‘wrong’ and as a result less available to him.

These journeys are often more about release, letting go, surrender & acceptance to just BE … be present to meet their needs, to key in to where they are at, to be deeply aware of them, the environment & ourselves. Containing is about holding space, being available & most importantly bringing a sense of SAFETY to our child’s nervous system.
Safe & secure relationship is amongst the greatest gift we can give them but we cannot offer this unless we are containing them & looking after ourselves in order to do this well. Self care is key adhd

Parenting complex kids takes extra special parenting - they require us to truly show up for them.
They require us to forget how we were parented- how we thought it would be - how we think it should be … & just PARENT THE CHILD IN FRONT OF US. …
Deeply seeking to understand & to gain insights & tools to meet their needs is so important, as is accessing compassion for their struggle - even tho their struggle makes our lives hard too.
It can be exhausting, overwhelming, terrifying, lonely & more.
That’s why it’s so important to :
- take care of ourselves
- reach out for support
- be real about the struggle
- find a tribe and lean in

You are not alone mamma. You really aren’t
