What a memorable Founders Day as Durban High School celebrated 160 years of excellence, tradition, and brotherhood.

Both our 1st Teams produced outstanding performances against a formidable Westville outfit, displaying the resilience, determination, and pride that define DHS.

🏉 1st XV Rugby
DHS 24 – 19 Westville

Trailing 6-19 at half-time, the Horseflies produced a remarkable second-half comeback, with a dramatic last-movement try securing a famous victory on van Heerden's.

🏑 1st XI Hockey
DHS 2 – 1 Westville

Our 1st XI Hockey side delivered a composed and spirited performance to claim a well-deserved victory in a fiercely contested encounter.

Congratulations to all players, coaches, and support staff on two outstanding results on one of the most significant days in our school's history.

🏫 ON THIS DAY – 31 MAY 1977 🏫

On this day, 49 years ago, Durban High School marked a historic milestone with the official opening of the New School Buildings.

The ceremony took place on Founders Day, 31 May 1977, and was officiated by the Administrator of Natal, The Honourable W.W.B. Havemann, at 10:00am.

Speaking at the opening, Mr. Havemann remarked that the new buildings were “a far cry from the three previous sites occupied by the school in its 111 years of existence.” He encouraged the boys of DHS to remain true to themselves and their neighbours while respecting the values and cultures of others.

Headmaster Mr. D.C. Thompson expressed the hope that the new facilities would inspire generations of boys and masters to uphold the standards, traditions, and moral courage that have long defined Durban High School.

As we celebrate 160 Years of DHS (1866–2026), we look back on this significant moment that helped shape the School's modern era and strengthened the foundations of its proud heritage. 💙💛
