A Warm Word from Principal Nicky

As we come to the start of June and prepare for the second half of the year, I am reminded of one of the many beautiful aspects of a Montessori education: the incredible growth that happens once children are truly settled into their environment.

By this stage of the year, our children know their classrooms well. They understand the routines, feel secure in their relationships, and move through their days with increasing confidence and independence. The classroom has become a place where they belong.
This is often when the real Montessori magic begins to unfold.

We see children choosing work with purpose, concentrating for longer periods, and taking genuine ownership of their learning. They become more willing to challenge themselves, explore new interests, solve problems independently, and stretch themselves socially as they build friendships and learn to work alongside others.

What may look simple on the surface is, in fact, the development of important lifelong skills: curiosity, resilience, self-discipline, confidence, and a love of learning. These are the foundations of the Montessori child.

Our children enjoyed a hands-on reptile experience, learning about these fascinating animals and their important role in nature. There was plenty of curiosity, excitement, and brave exploration as learning came to life beyond the classroom.

Our reptile projects have brought so much excitement, curiosity and creativity into the classroom! From snakes and tortoises to chameleons and crocodiles, the children have loved researching, building, painting and sharing what they’ve learnt. Hands-on learning always sparks the most wonderful conversations and discoveries. 🦎🐢🐍

Before children count, calculate, or write numbers, they learn through patterns, order, and connection.
Lining up stones may look simple, but it is rich with pre-maths learning — sorting, sequencing, comparing size, noticing patterns, and understanding order. It also builds concentration, problem-solving, and fine motor skills through hands-on play.
Sometimes the most meaningful learning begins with a handful of stones and a curious mind.
