As you take on the Ultimate Human Race this Sunday, know that the entire TMC community is behind you every step of the way.

For many of our past pupils, the journey may have started with a TMC Long Walk, where determination, resilience, and endurance were first put to the test. Those same qualities, together with the spirit and grit that are so much a part of the TMC journey, will carry you through the kilometres ahead.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, a medal, or simply the finish line, we wish you a fantastic race and an unforgettable day on the road.

From the TMC Long Walk to Comrades, every great journey begins with a single step. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

๐Ÿ‘‰Running on Sunday? Drop your race number in the comments so that the TMC family can cheer you on and follow your progress throughout the day.

๐ŸŒŸ Past Pupil Spotlight: Noah Bircher (Class of 2025) ๐ŸŒŸ

Just a few months after matriculating from Thomas More College as part of the Class of 2025, Noah Bircher is already making his mark on the South African theatre stage.

Noah is currently studying at the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) in Cape Town and has recently performed in his very first production, Killer Queen, at Theatre on the Bay.

His performance has already attracted attention, with a review on https://www.eatplaydrink.capetown/play/lamtas-killer-queen-at-theatre-on-the-bay-is-sheer-exuberance/ noting:

"With a cast and crew of this size itโ€™s perhaps unfair to single anyone out, because theyโ€™re all so good. But we must give 'Baby Cillian Murphy' Noah Bircher a shout, not only for his uncanny resemblance to the actor but because heโ€™s also a fabulous singer."

Having witnessed Noah's standout performances and passion for the performing arts during his time at Thomas More College, we knew he had a bright future ahead of him. It is wonderful to see him embracing every opportunity and thriving in a highly competitive industry.

We are incredibly proud of you, Noah, and look forward to following your journey and celebrating many more successes in the years to come.

If you're in Cape Town and would like to see Noah in action, Killer Queen is running at Theatre on the Bay until 20 June 2026.

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations, Noah. Your Thomas More family is cheering you on every step of the way.

Many within the TMC community will know Wanri Venter, former Thomas More College Head of Sport, internationally recognised hockey umpire, and Olympic umpire, who spent many years contributing to hockey and sport at TMC.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue sharing reflections and stories from individuals whose lives and hockey journeys were impacted by Mike Lees.

Today, Wanri shares her reflection on Mike, someone she worked closely alongside and someone who had a profound impact on so many within the hockey community.

Wanri recently celebrated officiating her 100th FIH International Match, an extraordinary achievement in world hockey. Yet in this reflection, she speaks about someone who helped shape journeys for so many others, Mike Lees.

Mike never looked for recognition, but through the stories being shared, it is clear just how many lives he influenced through his encouragement, mentorship, and love for the game.

If you, like Wanri, were inspired by Mike Lees, or if Mike impacted your life through hockey, umpiring, or coaching, we invite you to be part of continuing his legacy by contributing towards the Mike Lees Legacy Hockey Scholarship through our secure online giving platform:

When we reflect on our time at school, it is often certain teachers, coaches, mentors, and staff members who leave a lasting impact on our lives long after we have left the classroom or sports field.

Mike Lees was one of those people.

Through hockey, mentorship, encouragement, and service, he inspired and guided so many within the Thomas More College community and the wider hockey fraternity.

The Mike Lees Legacy Hockey Scholarship was launched a few weeks ago as a way to honour that legacy and create opportunities for future generations of hockey players.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing memories and moments from individuals whose lives were shaped by Mikeโ€™s passion for the game and his belief in people.

The first comes from Brian Riddle (Class of 2020), current TMC Hockey Coach and one of the youngest Level 4 hockey umpires in South Africa, as he shares a little about the role Mike played in his hockey and umpiring journey.

Thank you, Brian, for being part of this tribute and for continuing to give back to the game and the TMC community.

A special thank you as well to Terence Robertson for so generously giving of his time and talent to capture these important legacy moments.

If you would like to be part of continuing Mikeโ€™s legacy through the Mike Lees Legacy Hockey Scholarship, secure online giving can be made via:
