Grade 7 Technology: Building an Electromagnetic Crane ⚙️🧲

Our Grade 7 learners recently put their Technology skills into practice as they worked on an exciting project to design and construct an electromagnetic crane.

Through this hands-on activity, learners explored how electricity and magnetism work together to create an electromagnet. They applied their knowledge of circuits, followed construction processes, and worked carefully to build and test their cranes.

The project encouraged problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and practical thinking, while giving learners the opportunity to see scientific and technological concepts come to life.

Well done to our Grade 7 learners for their enthusiasm and hard work! 👏🔧⚡🧲

Grade 7 Market Day: A Day of Fun, Creativity and Entrepreneurship! 🛍️🎉

Today, our Grade 7 learners put their entrepreneurial skills to the test during an exciting Market Day! The school was buzzing with energy as learners proudly showcased and sold a wonderful variety of products to their fellow learners and staff.

There was something for everyone, including an assortment of sweets, various food items and delicious pizza, cooldrinks, beautiful jewellery, chocolate-covered strawberries, cakes, vetkoeks, and toys. 🍕🍓🍰🍭🧸

The Market Day provided learners with a valuable opportunity to develop important skills such as planning, budgeting, marketing, communication, teamwork, and customer service. It was wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm come to life as they managed their stalls and interacted with customers.

Well done to our Grade 7 learners for making the day such a fantastic success! 🌟👏

Overport SRS Shines at Annual Elocution Competition 🎤🌟

Our Foundation Phase learners recently participated in the Annual Elocution Competition, organised by the Department of Education. The competition provided our young learners with an exciting opportunity to develop their confidence, communication skills, and public speaking abilities.

Each grade was given a different challenge. Grade R and Grade 1 learners recited poems, Grade 2 learners read from a book, while Grade 3 learners delivered speeches. 🎤📚

We are incredibly proud of the four learners who successfully progressed from the School Level to the Circuit Level, where they competed against learners from other prominent schools:

- Timodinswashe Mdladlamba – Grade R
- Ndalwenhle Cele – Grade 1
- Bienfait Mukubiza – Grade 2
- Kupakwashe Mutsvangwa – Grade 3

Our learners continued to make us proud at the Circuit Level, with Bienfait Mukubiza achieving an impressive 3rd place in the Grade 2 category. 🥉👏 Even more exciting was Kupakwashe Mutsvangwa, who secured 1st place in the Grade 3 category! 🥇🏆

As a result of their outstanding performances, Bienfait and Kupakwashe will proceed to the next level, the Inter-Circuit Elocution Competition, where they will once again showcase their talents.

On behalf of the Principal, staff, learners, and SGB, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our participants for their dedication and excellent performances. We wish Bienfait and Kupakwashe every success in the next round of the competition. We are incredibly proud of you! 🌟🎤🏆

Grade 3ABA Learn, Create and Share! 🏠🎨✨

Our Grade 3ABA learners recently enjoyed a wonderful combination of learning, creativity, and self-expression through Show and Tell and a fun Creative Arts activity.

During Show and Tell, learners had the opportunity to bring items to share with their classmates and confidently speak about them. This helped develop their communication skills, confidence, and ability to express themselves. 🗣️🌟

In Creative Arts, learners put their imaginations to work by designing and constructing their very own 3D houses. 🏠✂️🎨 Through this hands-on activity, they explored creativity, construction, and spatial awareness while proudly showcasing their unique creations.

Dreaming Big at Overport SRS Career Day 🌟👩‍⚕️👨‍✈️👨‍🍳

Overport SRS recently hosted an exciting and inspiring Career Day, giving our learners an opportunity to explore the many possibilities that await them in the future. ✨

Our Grade 7 learners enthusiastically dressed up as the careers they aspire to pursue and shared information about their chosen professions. Learners showcased a wonderful variety of career choices, including doctors, lawyers, engineers, businesspeople, teachers, IT professionals, members of law enforcement, pilots, scientists, sportspeople, comedians, welders, fashion designers, and chefs. 👩‍⚕️⚖️👷‍♂️💻✈️🎨👨‍🍳

The programme was further enriched by inspiring guest speakers, including photographer Calista Naicker and Matron Sue Chetty, who shared their experiences and insights with our learners. Their stories provided valuable encouragement and helped learners understand the dedication and passion required to succeed in their chosen careers. 📸🩺

Our Grade R learners also joined in the excitement as they celebrated their future dreams by dressing up as the careers they hope to pursue one day. It was wonderful to see our youngest learners already dreaming big! 🌈👩‍🚀👨‍🚒👩‍🏫

Celebrating Women’s Day at Overport SRS 🌸

On 9 August, South Africa celebrates Women’s Day, honouring the strength, courage, resilience, and achievements of women across our country. The day also commemorates the historic women’s march of 1956, when women stood together in protest against discriminatory pass laws.

Overport SRS proudly joined in the celebration with a special programme featuring inspiring speeches and vibrant dance performances by our learners. 🎤💃 Their performances highlighted the importance of respecting, appreciating, and empowering women while reminding us of the remarkable contributions women continue to make in our homes, schools, communities, and country🌷✨
