It's important to stay organized and prepared when it comes to filing taxes. Here's a summary of the key points you mentioned:
Filing Deadlines:
For salaried employees: The tax season will close on 23 October 2023.
For individuals with additional income: If you earn income apart from your salary (e.g., rental, freelance, investment income), your filing deadline is 24 January 2024.
Auto-Assessments:
Auto-Assessments will be sent out between 1 and 7 July.
You will have until 23 October 2023 to approve or submit a tax return.
It's recommended to review the Auto-Assessment and file your tax return yourself to ensure you maximize your deductions and refund.
Checklist of Documents Needed for Filing:
IRP5/IT3(a) certificates: Obtain these from your employer(s) to show your salary and deductions.
Medical aid certificate(s): Keep the certificate(s) that demonstrate your medical aid contributions.
Retirement annuity fund certificate(s): If you contribute to a retirement annuity fund, have the relevant certificates ready.
IT3b/IT3c: These tax forms are used to report investment income. Consult your financial advisor if you haven't received them.
Travel logbook: Use a Logbook App to track business-related travel expenses for tax purposes.
s18A donation tax certificate(s): If you made contributions to a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), request the certificate(s) from the charity.
Additional income and deduction information: Gather records related to any other income sources (e.g., rental income, freelance gigs) and expenses for accurate reporting.
Remember to consult with a tax professional or refer to the relevant tax authority's guidelines for specific requirements and any updates.
