Umhlanga Pre-Primary School opened its doors in 1977 at the Umhlanga Baptist Church and in 2014 the school relocated to new premises at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Somerset Park. This year the school celebrates its 40th birthday.

We cater for learners from 2 years to Grade R and offer an aftercare facility. At Umhlanga Pre-Primary, we create a fun environment where children can have a good start to becoming happy adults and provide a safe, nurturing and loving environment where children are free to explore every developmental area. We are committed to educating the whole child - intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

Class sizes are small, offering a wide variety of toys and equipment for child play. The school offers an integrated education programme which follows the national curriculum and incorporates Christian principles and values. A wide range of learning areas is covered and a good balance of teacher-directed times and free play periods give the children opportunities to learn through play, creativity and exploration. The team is made up of dedicated, qualified teachers, each with their own assistant, who together provide warmth, love and safety to ensure each child’s individual needs are met. This year they introduced a weekly Music and Movement class to each group. An Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist conduct weekly sessions at the school.

The curriculum followed by the school is as laid down by the Department of Education, following the Foundation Phase CAPS Policy.
