📚 WHETSTONE PRIMARY CELEBRATES READATHON WEEK! 📚

What a beautiful celebration of the love for reading!

A special assembly was held for Readathon Week and our learners truly impressed us. Their passion for books was clear to see as they showcased:

🎤 Excellent storytelling skills
🎭 Wonderful puppet show performances
📖 Thoughtful and confident book reviews

It was inspiring to see how much our children truly LOVE reading. You could feel the excitement in every story told and every character brought to life!

A big well done to all our learners, and thank you to our dedicated teachers and parents for instilling this love for reading in our children.

What an amazing day! Our Whetstone Primary School Fun Walk was a huge success and it was so great to see our learners and parents out walking together, laughing, and showing off their Whetstone pride.

A big thank you to:
- Our learners and parents for your energy, smiles, and participation
- Our wider community for coming out to support
- CPF and SAPS for keeping everyone safe and assisting throughout the walk

This week Grade 3 started coding with rodocodo, using our interactive board.🤖
Instead of just watching, learners came up to the board to code blocks, test sequences, and fix mistakes together.

We are building computational thinking early: breaking down problems, reflecting and trying again.💫

🌟 Gold Medal Alert! Meet Tayin Chreenjeeth, Grade 4 Science Champion 🌟

We are bursting with pride!

Tayin Chreenjeeth from Grade 4 has just won a GOLD MEDAL at the Eskom Science Expo 🎉

His project? A fully functional stadium powered by solar energy — with a twist that blew the judges away.

What made Tayin's project stand out:
Solar-powered stadium: The entire model runs on renewable solar power
Smart flooring: He used piezoelectric discs in the stadium floor. That means every step generates electricity! The energy from movement is converted into current to help power the lights
Real-world impact: It shows how we can combine renewable energy + human movement to create greener, smarter spaces

At just Grade 4, Tayin took on big ideas about sustainability, innovation, and the future of energy. And he delivered.

The Eskom Science Expo celebrates young scientists who think differently and solve real problems. Tayin did exactly that, and brought home gold for it.

Last Friday, our learners enjoyed a fun and inspiring Women’s Day Programme filled with smiles, talent and meaningful moments! 🌷

Our learners wowed us with informative speeches, beautiful poems and energetic dances, showcasing their confidence and creativity. 🎤💃🏽📖

We were also honoured to have the wonderful Nandi Ngcobo as our guest speaker, who shared an inspiring message with our learners. 💕

It was truly a memorable day celebrating the strength, courage and brilliance of women! 💜✨

Whetstone Primary School Hosts + Sweeps the Coding and Robotics CMC Tournament🏆🤖💻

We are so proud!

Whetstone Primary had the honor of hosting the Coding and Robotics CMC Tournament today, and our learners delivered an incredible performance.

Congratulations to all the participating schools from 6 circuits who joined us. Each team earned their spot here after placing first in their circuits, so the level of talent in the room was outstanding. Well done to every learner who represented their school today.

Results:
- Robotics: 1st Place - Whetstone Primary
- Unseen Coding: 1st Place - Whetstone Primary
- Code Cup Tournament: 1st Place - Whetstone Primary

A clean sweep across all 3 segments! 👏

A huge thank you to Mr MT Yusuf for coordinating an exemplary event and to Mrs V Pillay for her guidance and support throughout all the planning. Because of you, today ran smoothly and gave our learners the platform to shine.

Next stop: KZN Coding and Robotics Provincial Tournament! Our learners are moving on to represent us at provincials. Let's show them all the support as they get ready.

🏆 Undisputed Champions Since 2018! 🏆
Whetstone Primary School has done it again! At the Mafukuzela Gandhi CMC Speech Contest Finals held at Sunford Primary School on 31 July 2026, our Phoenix Central Circuit Finalists went head-to-head against five other circuits and emerged as the overall winners! 🥇✨
This incredible victory continues a legendary winning streak that dates back many years were Whetstone Primary remains the undisputed number one circuit🙌
A massive congratulations to our phenomenal finalists who brought ultimate honours to our school:
✨ Tayin Chreenjeeth (Grade 4) – 1st Place! 🥇
✨ Rithika Ramroop (Grade 5) – Finalist who fought exceptionally hard! 🌟
✨ Ariana Mullah (Grade 6) – 1st Place! 🥇
✨ Fareeha Mahommed (Grade 7) – 1st Place! 🥇
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our Senior Primary Speech Contest Coordinator, Mrs S. Govender, whose expertise shaped our speakers into champions.
