Learners from George Campbell School of Technology recently attended the GIMS Roadshow, held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre,by the Ethekwini Municipality and their partnerships, where they were exposed to exciting opportunities in coding, innovation and digital technology.
The event brought together young minds from across the province to explore the future of technology and leadership.
Geospatial Information Management Strategy (GIMS) is a structured plan that guides how an organization or government collects, manages, shares, and uses geographic (location-based) data to support decision-making, service delivery, and planning.
During the programme, the learners had the opportunity to engage with several members of local and provincial parliament, gaining valuable insight into governance, youth development and the role of technology in shaping communities. The experience inspired many learners to consider future careers in both technology and public service.
The George Campbell learners also participated actively in the coding activities and media interviews, where they confidently shared their experiences and reflected on what they had learnt during the event.
Their participation highlighted the school’s commitment to developing confident, skilled and future-focused learners.

George Campbell competed in the Alex Forbes Battle Boards Chess Championship 2026 KZN provincial qualifier on Saturday,16 May 2026.
The team participated online on http://chess.com as a 7-player squad against schools across KwaZulu-Natal, with all matches monitored for fair play and supported by live commentary.
The fast time controls created an intense competitive environment, but consistent performance across the boards allowed the team to maintain composure throughout the event. A 4th-place finish secured advancement to the National Pool Stage on 1 August 2026, where George Campbell will represent KZN against the top schools from other provinces.
We wish Dr Mulenga and his team all the best with their next round. Our chess team continues to excel this year. We are very proud of these members.
