COVID-19 UPDATE
TO ALL Brettonwood High School FAMILIES: Please note that, there is a misleading Twitter message going round. BHS only has one confirmed case of covid-19 and the learner is in isolation and being properly cared for. There is no single truth expressed in the Tweet. It is malicious fake news. The school followed all protocols as prescribed by the Departments of Education and Health. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any concerns.

The principal, management, and staff of Brettonwood High School would like to extend their condolences to the family of Thabiso Dladla, who passed away on 27 May 2019. Thabiso entered Brettonwood in 2017 as a shy, polite Grade 8 learner and throughout the years here, grew into the embodiment of what it means to be a learner at this school. He was a respectful, intelligent, loving and strong individual. He shared many of the core values that we stand for at Brettonwood High and quickly became friends with a small group, who stuck together. Despite having a core group of friends, he was always friendly to everyone he met and always had a smile ready for those he came in contact with. Our school creed reads, ‘I refuse to be ordinary, I will respect my educators, and serve my community with pride and honour.’ That is surely what he did. He wore his uniform with pride and honour and gave the utmost respect not just to the teachers, but to his classmates and schoolmates as well. Thabiso, your smile, humour, sunny disposition and willingness to help everyone will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.

Elinye Ithuba project
As part of their 2018 tenure as part of the Durban Youth Council, two young boys with great minds made a exceptional contribution as they undertook a project where they helped those in need. These learners went to Masijabule Day Care Centre and provided groceries for the toddlers.
The aim of the project is to help crèches, centres and orphanages. As part of their mandate, both gentlemen planned to undertake an initiative to provide crèches, centres and orphanages with a vegetable garden, groceries as well as painting the institution, so that it will a conducive environment for the toddlers.
These boys were inspired to do this by The DYC (Durban Youth Council). These Grade 11 boys - 17 year old, Siphesihle Mkhize (Brettonwood High School) and 16 year old, Lungelwa Xaba (Pinetown Boys High School) are learners who strive for excellence in and out of the classroom.
One day they hope to start their own NPO (Elinye iThuba) and we wish them all the success in their future endeavours. The reason why this project and their future NPO is close to their hearts is because they believe, "Blessed is the hand that gives rather than the one that receives."
These young men are future leaders who embrace the keys values of unity, generosity, kindness and goodness and will surely raise the South African flag high, wherever they go.
Thank you, gentlemen, for your hard work, generosity and kindness, we, at Brettonwood, could not be prouder of both gentlemen.

Our learners doing their bit for our community, and country

The Grade 9 Leadership Outdoor Excursion took place on the 30 April 2019 at Giba Gorge. Throughout the day our learners enjoyed educational and fun-filled adventure by participating in activities such as: low-rise obstacle course, go kart building and relay, paintball target shooting, as well as traditional indigenous games. The learners had fun and learnt more about working in a team as well as individually to reach goals. Thank you to our parents who continue to support these projects, without your support this excursion would not have been a success.
