I am a fully qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Primary Education Degree and 16 years teaching experience. At the start of my teaching career, I taught Grade 1 at Chelsea Preparatory School for 6 years. I am a mom of three children and after having my first child, I opened Hakuna Matata Pre School

Sight words are an essential part of the reading process. They are hard words for children to "break down" or "sound out." Sight words do not follow the standard English language spelling rules or the six types of syllables. Sight words usually have irregular spellings or complex spellings that are hard for children to sound out.

Shaving cream poured out onto a table is a great sensory activity.
It it also builds gross and fine motor strength, as well as bilateral co-ordination as a child uses both arms and hands to rub and smear the shaving cream all over the table...(and themselves😋)
This is an inexpensive activity that will keep your little one engaged, learning and having fun!

Charity Day...
Every term, our amazing parents join in and support the different charity drives we offer at Hakuna.
In term Two, we supported the SPCA by encouraging our parents to donate food, blankets, or R5.
The little ones loved posting their donated goodies into the money tin or basket. What a wonderful way to teach them about generosity and caring for animals in need.

We were able to hand over so many goodies, as well as buying the necessary items, the SPCA needed with the money we raised.

This is where we first began!
Hakuna officially opened on the 18th of April 2007 with only a handful of babies and children!
This picture was taken in 2008.
16 years later, Hakuna now offers care from 3 months to 6 years of age!
🌸 Oh, how my beautiful "dream" has grown and "blossomed." 🌸
With my team of incredible teachers, support staff, teacher assistants, aftercare staff, as well as a fabulous PA, we create that "home away from home" environment, where our babies and children get to grow and learn, achieving to their fullest!

Hearing words helps to build a rich network of words in a baby or child's brain. Children whose parents talk and read to them often know more words by age 2 than children who have not been read to.

I am a fully qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Primary Education Degree and 16 years teaching experience. At the start of my teaching career, I taught Grade 1 at Chelsea Preparatory School for 6 years. I am a mom of three children and after having my first child, I opened Hakuna Matata Pre School, where I have taught from ages 18 months to Grade R. My goal at Hakuna is to create a “home away from home” environment, where your little one will be safe and secure, while at the same time choosing from a variety of activities, which will encourage continued learning.
My teachers are all qualified and highly motivated and together we will continue giving the best educational program. At Hakuna Matata Pre-School, your little one will be assured of a stimulating and educational day. We have a fun-filled curriculum, where your child will learn about different themes, with activities aimed at learning through play and experiences that prepare them for formal schooling. Each of these activities promote all aspects of a young child’s development, a few of which include:
• Informal / Formal discussions - weather, news, story time, nursery and finger rhymes, etc
• Music and movement
• Baking
• Playing with educational toys, games and puzzles
• Play dough, threading, drawing
• Sand, water and sensory play
• Creative art, painting and box construction
• Free play and fantasy play
The focus at Hakuna Matata Pre-School is the development of the whole child.

My beliefs about children underlie the ethos of my Pre-School.
