Let’s get messy! Mud play is more than just fun—it’s a powerhouse for development. From boosting immune systems and serotonin to sharpening fine motor skills and sparking endless creativity, a little dirt goes a long way!

We had such a refreshing and inspiring visit today from Michaela Geytenbeek from the Kinship Program. Many people in the Durban North community already know Michaela and the wonderful work she does, but today the teachers from Headway Pre-Primary and Our Lady of Fatima were given a special opportunity to learn from her.

The Kinship Program focuses on helping children develop a real connection with nature by encouraging awareness and pro-environmental behaviour through immersive, enquiry-based play in wild spaces. Instead of simply teaching children about nature, the approach invites them to explore it, ask questions, and learn through hands-on experiences outdoors.

It was inspiring for our teachers to be exposed to such a refreshing perspective on how we can model, teach, and guide our learners to appreciate the natural world around them. It reminded us how powerful nature can be as a classroom, and what a privilege it is for our children to grow up with access to these experiences. .

We’re also excited to share that Headway now has access to Earth Stewardship Curriculum, developed by Michaela Geytenbeek through the Kinship Program.

We’re really looking forward to weaving some of her fun, interactive lessons into our learning experiences with the children. The curriculum encourages curiosity, exploration, and a deeper respect for the natural world — all through engaging, hands-on activities that children truly enjoy.

It’s an exciting opportunity for us to continue nurturing a love for nature in our learners and helping them grow into thoughtful, caring stewards of the beautiful environment around them. 🌿🌍

We were so grateful to host the amazing Occupational Therapist Joanna Bath, who guided our parents in understanding both their own sensory profiles and their children’s.

Every child experiences the world differently — and when we understand these sensory needs, we can better support regulation, learning, and connection.

Thank you Jo for equipping our families with practical tools and meaningful insight. 💛 Joanna Bath
