Today our school had the privilege of hosting DKMS Africa for a very special assembly.

DKMS Africa is an organization dedicated to recruiting stem cell donors, raising awareness about blood cancers and disorders, and helping provide life-saving stem cell transplants to patients in need. During the session, our learners were educated about cancer, the importance of stem cell donation, and how a single donor can potentially save a life.

It was inspiring to see many of our learners and educators step forward and register their support for this incredible cause. Moments like these remind us of the power of compassion and the impact that ordinary people can have when they choose to help others.

A heartfelt thank you to DKMS Africa for the informative and meaningful presentation, and for giving our learners the opportunity to grow into individuals who understand the importance of standing up for othersโ€”especially in the fight against cancer. ๐Ÿ’™

These spaces were created to give our learners the opportunity to share positive messages of hope, resilience, pride, strength and happiness. The response was truly heartwarming. Our learners embraced the initiative wholeheartedly and filled the boards with thoughtful, uplifting words that are powerful, sincere and deeply meaningful.

Our goal was simple yet significant โ€” to flood our school with kindness and drown out the hurtful words that so often cause pain. We wanted to intentionally create a space where positivity speaks louder than negativity.

For learners who may be experiencing bullying or self-doubt, the Affirmation Station was a place to pause, breathe, and take what they needed โ€” a kind word, a reminder of their worth, a boost of confidence, or simply a moment of encouragement. Sometimes one sentence can change the direction of someoneโ€™s day.

This is more than just a once-off activity. It is the beginning of a culture we want to nurture โ€” a school environment filled with compassion, respect, encouragement and happy, healthy energy.

We are incredibly proud of our learners for showing up with such maturity and heart. ๐Ÿ’›

Letโ€™s continue to build a school where kindness is louder than cruelty and where every learner feels seen, valued and supported.

We hope their words resonated and will guide these learners through the next 4โ€“5 years of school with confidence, respect, and empathy for one another.

They highlighted the effects of bullying & cyberbullying and shared the RCLโ€™s strong stance against this issue that continues to challenge schools everywhere.

Even if we reached just a handful of learners, we hope the message has made a difference. Every student deserves to feel safe, secure, and supported at school.

More speeches and activities are planned over this week to promote kindness and compassion over bullying. Weโ€™re confident our learners would have taken something valuable from this insightful talk by our senior RCL representatives.

Apollo Secondary School's DUX Awardee for 2025 bags 9 Distinctions!!! โœจ๏ธ

We are immensely proud of our Class of 2025, but Vetalli Reddy truly stands out as a beacon of excellence. She attained 9 Distinctions in the NSC exams for 2025 in English (HL), Afrikaans (FAL), Tamil (SAL), Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Geography, Computer Applications Technology, and Life Orientation.

Beyond these results, she has been a phenomenal leader, serving as Head Girl, SAPS Junior Commissioner, and RCL President. Her passion for growth led her to mentor junior learners during breaks, founding the Science Club to foster a genuine love for the subject.

Vetalliโ€™s consistent sacrifice has paid off with her acceptance into the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch. We are incredibly proud of her legacy and wish her the absolute best as she begins her journey to becoming a doctor. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿฉบ๐ŸŒŸโœจ

๐Ÿ“– Apollo Secondary School celebrates National Book Week in style! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“š

Today our learners and staff showed off their creative side by dressing up as their favorite literary characters. From classic novels to comic book heroes, everyone got into character and had a blast! ๐Ÿคฉ

This celebration highlighted the importance of reading in our school community. Reading isn't just essential for language-based subjects; it has a ripple effect on all areas of learning, enhancing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. By championing reading, we're empowering our learners to succeed in all aspects of their education.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this day so special! Today also served as an opportunity for the school to raise some funds to purchase much needed books and other items for our newly renovated reading room. If you'd like to sponsor books or other items, please get in touch with us. Let's work together to ignite a lifelong passion for reading in our learners! ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’ก
